8.0 would be the perfect time to Revamp the Glamour system.

You know we've reached a point when people actually start begging for monetized mogstation options to bypass job restrictions instead of just asking for the removal of said restrictions...

i don't want any of it on Mogstation. But i think what pissed me off more than ANYTHING and made me somewhat give up on ever seeing crafting/gathering gear on combat jobs was several years ago during the Ishgard Restoration Event. One of the rewards they offered was a level 1 variant of every crafting job's tomestone gear. everyone was excited before it dropped because we thought it'd be glamours any job could use.

Oh how the devs must have laughed in our faces because not only were they not glamours any job could use, they were restricted to the individual crafting jobs. Alchemist outfit could only be used on Alchemist, Blacksmith could only be used by Blacksmith, etc. People were PISSED, and rightfully so. The worst part is the devs never went back and changed those. I go back to the npcs who sell those on occasion, just to see if they shadow-changed those glamour outfits. I don't even get my hopes up, and i'm still disappointed.

To be honest I've stopped taking seriously their explanations on role glamour as soon as people could start equipping bikinis in pve content.
Either make strong role restrictions within pve, or just don't, but halfassing it in between just makes people rightfully annoyed.

I'm in the minority of liking being able to tell what job someone is by just looking at them, but I 100% agree with everyone in this thread that says since you can pretty much can wear bikinis as a tank or plate as a mage especially due to mogstation, they should just remove restrictions for role glamour.
I'd love them to do it via a quest though, not just a mechanical change. Like maybe some quirky mage teaches you how to empower glamour crystals to use them for clothes outside of the job ones, give it a bit of a narrative reason!

The problem with that idea is that there isn't a narrative reason why glam is role restricted. Nothing in the quest for unlocking it implies that gear is role locked.

A bit off topic but there's a remedy for this in one of my favorite features of the game. Under Character Configuration -> Display Name Settings -> General you can display class icons on the nametags and change the color for role! Would highly recommend

It makes it very easy to tell your party member's job by looking at them.

I agree, and I generally try to dress appropriately for each job, but we also can't deny that the majority of players are just dressed in random modern gear these days. The only way you can tell their job is when they take their weapon out at this point :')


So if YoshiP actually wanted to enforce people looking like their jobs, he'd have to go back to when we didn't have all of these glam options and severely restrict the roles on many of the surviving sets. Of course, nobody wants that... so I hope gear becomes less restrictive over time.

Budget cuts are so stupid considering 14 is their moneymaker. Square Enix needs to pull its head out of its arse and stop hurting their biggest success.

"Cost Controls" have been implemented company wide and they are scaling back on development. While they have not cut the budget for FFXIV, they are implemeting "Cost Controls" to pare back expenses. I could give you a lengthy report on what is happening but most people will TLDR after the first few sentences so trust me on this, financially they are hurting and they are pulling in the belt alot.
