A MNK shouldn't be able to run down someone on their own, especially not a healer like WHM. Even with LB up they'll need support. They can run down someone if they chase someone that's about to die though, but not consistently harass someone for ages and kill them like that. The real issue is that your friend doesn't know how to defend properly, was probably totally overwhelmed under pressure, and didn't kow how to rotate between potions on the map, and her team was probably also totally clueless as Aravell suggested above. In short, that MNK exploited her lack of experience.

Is this a solution to help new players? No, but that's a hint of what to improve or how to deal with it. In a lot of pvp competitive games, players unfortunately have to face things and strats that feel like a shit sandwich and generate a very unfun experience, but the good mindset would be to try and see how others deal with this and how to address the problem oneself, and not to necessarily condemn the mode because "feelsbad".
I mean like. You are not wrong. Your point is that it is not the pvp mode but the new players are weak-minded and not able to handle pvp. So I will be the devil's advocate here, I think may be ffxiv is mostly for rp players. The issue is not the game but us the player. We just don't have enough unwavering players to build a healthy pvp mode, that is that. I will now accept it and move on. At the same time I am not going ask my rp and static friends to try out pvp anymore. I will just leave it like that

No my point isn't that new players are weak minded. I'd like to have better onboarding actually. I just don't know what would help, but the mention from someone above of adding a safe area just beneath the spawn point just in casual mode was a good idea I think. The pvp mode has a lot of issues or things that could be made better. Ultimately the experience you describe for your friend, which frankly sucks and repels players that get instantly seal clubbed their first game, is something that's literally in every pvp multiplayer game ever. Maybe we should try and take a look at how other titles deal with this if they ever do?

Since the game does internally track the number of matches you've ever played for the purposes of achievements, they could have a player's first 5-10 matches in casual CC be kind of like a calibration match where they only match the player with a pool of players that have the lowest amount of matches played. It would avoid a player entering their first match and playing against a player with 1700 matches played at least.

Yeah I also think adding a safe area is a very good idea, most of the game have that. I still remember in ow , the sombra was spawn camping our mercy she ran back and ask for help, and waited out.(also I think OW map is really big so new players don't just get deleted right away, the map also doesn't just showing your location 24/7 like in cc) In league of legends sometimes new player will just chill under the turret and look at the game mechanics and ask questions. Both game are toxic but new player doesn't just got thrown into the map against an alpha wolf or final conflict, and just die endlessly without shelter protection(or any protection) and onboarding. Just 5 mins of endless deaths for the new player. I saw this too many times, I will get into a game, saw one of our teammate just got hungry wolf I, then on the other side they have like 2 alpha wolf or sth. Then that new player just got super destroyed and you never see that person ever again.

I also have an idea, let us duel in any location, it will draw new players interest. Let us fight inside our house and anywhere in town. It would be so cool, and also let new player learn the game before they even considering going into cc. It'd be so awesome.

The sheer amount of vitriol contained in spamming 'good job' was a lesson learned after matching with someone a second time who had seen a complete newbie stumble in half blind to casual. Pity the teammates had to suffer, too. Perhaps one day, I'll touch PvP again. But right now - and I feel silly for saying so, the thought of being marked/shamed by a frustrated player induces a sense of anxiety. Don't have friends who pvp in XIV either. Guess it just ain't for me. C'est la vie.
For those who have the backbone, be good to have a safe spot; would suggest some kind of mentor arena if the community were the sort to utilize the mode enough to justify time spent on it. Hall of the Novice, PvP edition?

Maybe if the GMs actually did something about toxic behavior in matches we wouldnt have to deal with constant ignore marks (very egregious in high ranks) or nice job spamm (very egregious in casual/low ranks).

Looking at the game's track record I think they will most likely just block players from using nice job and ignore marks XD.

PvP in this game has always been bad and toxic. New players have no tutorials over what to do, what skills to press or what abilities to put on their bars. They don't even know that they can change HUD layout during CC so they can have easier match. They don't even know what potion, recuperate or sprint is. Most of the time they also lack LB button. Game just doesn't show you this and those tutorials of few text pages are so bad. There should be some tutorial where you are solo in maps so you can try. Going first time in maps is also going to make sure you lose.

So many players from top rank are effectively creating alts to destroy low ranked games and casuals. This happens a lot.

Your friend was playing a healer and monk's job is to annoy people which is exactly what they did. Your friend shouldn't have jumped on their corpse as this incentivizes monk to go even more aggressive and now just focus you. This class has been always known for "<target this player only>" due to its lb. You may also get ignore markers (or others), in-game chat to queue down or discord naming and shaming so whole leaderboard can see who you are and screenshot you everytime. Yep this does happen.

What tip I can give to your friend is to look at few tutorial youtube videos, play just one class so far and spam casuals until they learn it. Then go ranked, but rankeds now are mega dead.

BLM nukes your whole team, has more damage mitigation than a tank, is tankier than a tank and has more sustain than a bruiser.

WHM is a favourite child that gets extras, like an unnecessary ability you cannot remove with crowd control removal but wasn't considered a LB, like the same ability now having mana burn for no reason.
Devs decided to buff Monk and Machinist this patch because they are obviously very weak...
