Why not improve the 3 initial city-states?

Just a random thought doing some early quests... It would be really interesting if they improved the 3 starter city capitals into one single instance, since we aren't bound to the PS3 limitations anymore, IIRC the whole reason that those capital cities are split into subzones.

Not just having a continuous city would be good, but also if they potentially filled it with novelty. One may argue that is a waste of resources, but honestly, they'll always be densely populated regardless of expansion, like we see continuously. The seasonal events always happen there. Every new job or many side features also start there, the MSQ casually goes there too sometimes, list goes on.

On the other hand... there's also the fear that they'd downgrade from what we have if a rework of the cities would also mean changing heavily the current elements. I feel Dawntrail's capital cities are kinda badly designed, with so much emptiness or closed doors.

That would be great but I'd imagine it would be a huge amount of work to untangle the instances and quests and whatnot which is probably better spent elsewhere. Silvermoon City in WoW is in a similar circumstance since it's instanced away from the rest of the game world and it's only being undone next summer because it's the focal point of the expansion, which is 19 years after it was added to the game.

Hopefully the devs can find a way to do that one day, though. I'd love to see them fix up the damaged parts of Ishgard as well.

This in particular is one where we have the tech to make the map appear differently depending on where you are in MSQ or in a specific questline scenario (think Doma restoration.) Just The Brume would need to be cleaned up, and I could see that being contingent upon reading the end of a 7.55 with "okay we finished the housing area and all those Firmanent resources got put to use on the damaged outside areas" - with a disclaimer that more resources are still needed at the Firmament for additional repairs in the middle zones of the city, and eventually for the abandoned hamlets on the other side of Griffin's Crossing, so there are reasons for people to keep doing Firmament.

The larger organization I work for has ~15,000 employees.

My software development team has 9 employees.

It means that procurement, accounting, HR, and all that other stuff isn't handled by anyone in our team, it's handled at the higher levels. We can reach out to other departments for assistance sometimes (because we only do software dev, any time we need networking help that's a different department) but 90% of the work we do is work only we can do. And while we definitely want to hire more help, hiring another person right now isn't going to make our software development go any faster. It'll just slow it down because we have to train them.

But CS3 is hiring, and Yoshida was even advertising that during live letters in ShB and EW. They can't get applicants because SE doesn't pay well among Japanese game companies, they would need to live in a specific part of Tokyo, and they would need to be fluent in Japanese. It isn't good for a resume either given that the genre is largely considered dead and experience with the game's lobotomized chimera of an engine isn't applicable anywhere else.

the city states weren't split into zones during 1.0 launch... the split happened after they launched ARR.

I know, that's what I mean. I think the reason why it was split was due to the PS3 processing power, but may be something else and I'm not remembering it right.

I don't understand this criticism. Money is a finite resource. Even large companies don't have infinite money.
