Pretty much this. The only people still pining for this game are shills, people with low standards, or just ignorant to the issues the game suffers from. The rest of have either left/unsbubbed or are criticizing the game and devs to hopefully see some improvements. It does generally seem that the Yoshida marketing strategy is to be as vague as possible, then tell people to temper expectations once something draws closer, then under deliver to even those tempered expectations.
Given, I do think Dawntrail shattered those rose tinted glasses of a lot of people and I dont see the ususal tricks working all that much anymore.

i know its been the M.O. for the entirety of the game's history, but i am really tired of the vagueness. i always have an extremely low bar so that i can hopefully be pleasantly surprised, but it would be nice to have more clarity with things. i'm really excited for beastmaster and i try not to dwell too much on what it could be because i feel i will be disappointed if i think too much.
yoshida also tends to say stuff i a way which is kinda misleading. its never wrong but what people understand (even if you dont interpret too much into it) and what it actually is are very different.
without fun jobs none of the content is fun
That's probably why XIV's features are usually so polarizing, rarely a middle term in regards reception.
They literally have no way to gauge how the playerbase feels about something until at least 2 weeks prior to a patch launch for example. Like how when people caught on the BLM changes just based off ingame footage of a Live Letter.
I know they'll probably never do something like WoW's PTR/open beta because they are overly concerned about spoilers, but we could use at the very least some conceptual talk about future stuff. Like for example, a more cohese talk about jobs 8.0 instead of giving 2 very vague statements that in fact contradict each other. That can be done without giving up actual details.
Maybe we'd have something to actually look forward to.

i would really like if we had surveys bi-annually or something to ask us all sorts of questions and provide feedback.

I think the devs not giving details is the problem. It is hyping up 8.0 beyond measure.
This is bad because when the first fanfest comes people will be disappointed if the Devs dont paint a clear picture.
That's right... We mostly get superficial teasers of stuff, maybe something more concrete by the last Fanfest, but actual footage of stuff working out only by the Media Tour.

Correct.
Show us -- or tell us, precisely, what we can expect to get. Or don't even say anything at all and just silently cook. Pick one Yoshida.

I am not going to hype myself about 8.0 and the direction of travel as the proof is in the delivery and no amount of speculation or hope will change my opinion till the product is playable for me to assess.
I wanted to comment about YoshiP as I did find the supposed scion contention that was mentioned in the run up to Dawntrail to be interesting and after it was released to be very underwhelming, contrived and ridiculous. So i am quite cynical about future experiences and I am not naive to things that have happened from 2.0 beta onwards as a consistent subscriber but this really did bother me as a player. So judgement is really out for my future in the game as somethings that I care about do need to improve.
