However, it did seem a little too coincidental that circumstances kept taking us to locations on Emet-Selch's 'list' of places he suggested we visit.

Sure, we had a couple of dragons, but not a dragon expansion. Even Heavensward was more focused on just two or so dragons and mainly about the people of Ishgard.

But saying that we explored dragons "extensively" just because we met some or had a couple in the other extensions, would be the same as saying that WoW explored dragons extensively after Cataclysm. And then came Dragonflight.

The volume is much higher than you allude. They were a significant theme in Heavensward, especially in the post 3.0 patches.

When Endwalker launched its Deep Dungeon, I kept asking myself... did we need yet another Crystal Tower/Allagan themed storyline to back it up?

If they wanted a high tech setting for that DD, they already had a pretty good case in Garlemald. Underground of the Babil Tower, or another abandoned undergound facility. It would be a great chance to even explore the origins of the Black Rose, which seemed to be a huge plot point in Stormblood, but unfortunately dealt with off screen.

Meracydia feels like a panic button now that Viera have hats (kind of).

There's plenty of unexplored land even around Eorzea to go to, but the promise of a land of dragons sure is a pretty carrot to string players along.

I'm not saying that I didn't think it would happen. I'm saying that it was too coincidental that we've been 'pushed' toward those locations rather than doing what Estinien did (in DT) where he literally boarded a ship saying "I think I'll head to the West this time".
