Commendation Crystals? Can we purchase them?

Perhaps they could make it so ranks the Platinum and lower get a certain amount of "commendation shards", where a certain number of these could be traded in for 1 commendation crystal.
This is similar to what some other games with ranked pvp use for rewarding players of all skill levels, to encourage people to keep playing, and continue pushing to improve their rank throughout the whole season.
Without incentives for lower rank players to regularly play ranked pvp, the queues for those ranks can often die out before the end of the season; preventing both those at that skill level and individuals that wish to begin climbing ranked later into the season from playing.

While this might not be the best implementation or what everyone agrees with, it may be fitting if the devs plan to add further ranked pvp rewards purchasable with commendation crystals.
I find that new items should be added, as many players who have consistently placed high in ranked, are already sitting on tons of commendation crystals that they nothing left to spend them on.
With the right balance, the rarity of these items could be preserved, with better players able to get newer items immediately, while those that finish in lower ranks may be able to save up to purchase them at a much later date.
This would make commendation comparable to how players can clear and farm extreme/savage rewards either current, later into the same expansion with better gear and echo, or unsynced years later, rather than equating commendation crystals with ultimate weapons (I understand that this is not something all players would agree upon).
