They're not excluding them on purpose or to irritate you. It's legal issues, and if those legal issues are resolved, the coverage area can increase. until then, they can only do it where the law allows them to. You really don't have any idea how hard it is to run a contest across multiple countries, do you?

Generally, it's only an issue when real monetary/physical prizes are involved. It's usually not a problem for in-game item rewards.

There is money implied somehow because to enter the contest, you must buy an item. (Final Fantasy XIV, otherwise you cannot post on the forum).

You must be in one of the countries where these contests are usually allowed, try being in Poland or Lithuania, or Luxemburg. See how it feels. You obviously don't know what it is to be excluded constantly. Like, more than just this one time, or more than occasionally.

its not the contest runners faults you are excluded though, so maybe you should see why these things are what they are instead of throwing fits every time and work to change it

the money you pay for the game is not a prize.

People really need to get it out of their heads that SE hates certain countries and likes other ones or anything like that. I feel bad for all of you who live in countries with silly rules in place for contests, sweepstakes and lotteries. But don't act as if SE or the community team is consciously leaving you out by choice.

Oh I'm not blaming the reps, I'm blaming Squre-Enix and their legal department. Reps are relaying the information they get and do their best to do that both ways.

No, their legal department is just lazy to investigate the laws in smaller countries. It's definitely possible to get a contest like this running in more than just Germany, France, U.K., Italy and Spain. It's often just a matter of wording the rules.

The problem is that if you can manage appealing to these countries, you already have a big chunk of Europe off, and lawyers often feel the rest just isn't worth the hassle, it's too much legal costs for inefficient PR (too small audience), so they say "Sorry, we couldn't get it to work". I'm actually willing to bet that this contest is actually *viable* in a lot of other countries, but they just didn't apply for authorization.

If Blizzard can do it, Square Enix can. Give me one good reason why they were able to satisfy all the legal requirements and Square Enix cannot.

Once again, they're just acting like the only countries that count are the big ones.

Prize is irrelevant here. I am talking about entries conditions. Having to purchase an item to be able to enter a contest, even to win something that has no value, can still be considered as a lottery.

How do you know that Blizzard is respecting the law? You are assuming that because something is run, then whoever is running it is fully complying with all regulations? That's just dumb, especially considering that we had global contest before on XI, there wasn't such issues, why? Most likely because SE wasn't respecting the law either, and that changed at some point.

And it's not possible, out of 27 member states, for 2 of them to have mutually exclusive contest laws?

You want to live in a federal "United States of Europe." You don't. That's something to write to your national legislators and MEPs about, not ranting on an MMO forum.

Laws don't work in broad generalizations. I can't give you "one good reason" until you're able to provide a single, specific contest from Activision that you were able to participate in to compare to this single, specific contest from S-E.

I thought about bitching, but then I remembered how people felt about our contests, so I decided not to. Give them Europeans their own contest, guys. Just. Do. It.

Good luck to all Europeans on your contest entry.
