Why are you still playing this game if it makes you so bitter? But it's not easy. Or at least it's not fun. Rouls earns you absolutely no adequate gill for your time. Maps are fun only if you limit it to once a month, and then you can't just queue them, in PF you too deal with all the usual BS, with FC they not a good way to earn gil as any FC worth it's salt runs not just the latest maps but everything from HW so everyone gets to have 'fun'.
"Are you having fun yet?"
Is there anyone still subbed who actually plays for fun, rather than the outside of game RP, and the high end meta un-fun?
Pretty sure your doing something meta , optimal, trdious if you think earning gil is easy. Or probably even high end drops where the real gil is made. Crafting QoL improvements who knows what. Get no benefit of the doubt from me.
I just join loot buying parties and farm criterion now and then.

I feel like this is an insane take... maybe I'm not understanding correctly...From my perspective, it seems like your underlining my point. According to you, there is little difference between RMTers and the people who use crafting gathering QoL advatages (QoL), saving for one is more honest and open than the other. You certainly wouldn't have an RMTer in here disingenuously acting as though QoL addons aren't a 'massive', 'HUUUGE' advantage over the woeful state of the infuriating, friction at every button press, barest minimal help, state of the game as is. Endlessly complicated recipes that none overcomes without just getting straight into crafting optimiser (or far worse).
Not that you have suggested such, but others most certainly have. As others have seen me say before.
I wanted to do savage.
I want to do it after I have cleared Ex.
Ex takes all my time for two weeks, I don't have time for anything else.
I want to be ready geared for Ex and Savage by only doing casual and normal content.
I need to be geared in two job roles.
Need to be ready for savage in two roles in time for week 2,3. (So normals and tome gearing with it's caps are useless, not to mention tedious and boring after 4 to six weeks)
I'm not doing the tedious meta gil farming methods.
Rouls need to earn way more gil than they currently do, or crafting frankly needs to be fixed. There are currently a hundred ways it is broken in the game currently.
There is no way there are any serious crafters + end gamers on console. I just don't believe it.
Dedicated passionate crafters, not doing raiding, yes.
Raiders not doing their own crafting yes.
Not raider/omni-crafters. (Unless you want to count the odd very rare freak , and good for them, but thats not any of the average Joe's in these forums with their "you should do what I'm not even prepared to do myself")
You're saying that because it takes time, gameplay and gil to get raid gear, it's understandable that players do RMT?

I used to know people that whenever they started a new MMO they'd just buy a ton of gold, before they even knew if they liked the game, because they "never wanted to think about money in a game" or something.

What are you bringing modders up for? my stance is the same; like OP's friend, it sucks that the modders can't enjoy the game as they did before and as you can see the game is a less lively place (it's a lot easier to get into balmung to shop!) however that does not help the general community less people being active within.
I've never said that punishment shouldn't be handed out to bad actors not even once, only that people should not be happy that others are being punished, again unhinged and sick behavior.
