Being new to the game, I've found the gameplay, UI, and tutorials extremely unwelcoming to new players, and this now-obvious info you have presented to me is a huge help! Now, as far as any type of solo or low-man content goes, looking over each class' action lists, I'd imagine THM and CNJ may provide suitable uses? Or is solo/duo/trio play somewhat non-existent in this game?

as WAR you dont really need to go MRD to equip extra abilities from CNJ for solo play, WAR is one of the jobs that is pretty self sufficient with bloodthirst and second wind especially once you get steel cyclone and a bloodthirst + steel cyclone will heal you to full most the time.
