FFXIV housing and the future vs WoW housing update. Can FFXIV compete?

The reported housing limit is 10k, but the most complex build someone could muster during the test for invited players was 2k.

You think any of these features could be added to FFXIV?
And how large do you think the addition of housing item slots will be when it arrives.
Is the placement of items and the clunky system too late to fix or too arduous for the devs or is there a future there too?

Hard to say to be sure. But it's possible that 14 could take some of WoW's elements of the house like the neighborhood system. That way, it feels like a group effort.

Wards could empty out over night because people switch to WoW for it's housing and all SE would do is sigh in relief that they don't have to make new wards for a while.

It could all be done in FFXIV, I'm just not sure if they have someone capable of reworking it. After 12 years, it is difficult to reach any other conclusion than that. The only other thing I can think of is if they have such specific jobs and only do the specific jobs they applied for, never questioning that they should do anything else, that maybe that could be the cause too. One of them needs to openly say "we should do this, or that" and not be afraid to do so.

If they remade the housing system, rather than migrating the data, they would most likely make a new, separate housing system. I believe this because, in Island Sanctuary, you copy+paste the furniture into the new system so that it does not conflict with how regular furniture works.

I want to be clear that even if the code is messy, what you can do is get most of the relevant code and throw it in the recycle bin, then rewrite it, and make the code work with existing data or create a database migration script, then adjust anything that relied on the previous code. In my experience, this is unlikely to be something SE will do.

There is a reason to rewrite it as well - it is dragging down the rest of the game. FCs can't be cross-world because they are tied down to the housing system. Players can't get houses on other worlds or carry their house to other worlds and data centers. This is something that would be possible if they rewrote the whole thing from the ground up.

The ideal solution would preserve the concept of plots and detach houses from plots, allowing you to carry them around to other worlds or data centers. If you don't have a plot, you could teleport directly inside the house instead. Plots could still detach houses for inactivity and when the player returns to the game, maybe it could try to assign the same spot in a random ward if one is available. Creating large house "rich estates" may help as well if they are too overwhelmingly popular.

Considering they are VERY LATE to the MMO housing party, they (hopefully) benefit from the homework of everyone else.
It looks okay from someone who updates me about this from the Gamescom, but I have yet to dabble in this myself before I can make a final judgement.

First impressions from him - Can be vertical up to 5 floors with different ceiling heights, with item scaling from 50%-200% along with free rotation. The entrance was fixed, though.
Customizable and mix/match walls and floors however you want, you could have Blood Elf pillars with normal wooden walls and night elf wooden floors - Or just blank walls and go ham with it yourself.

Artificial ceilings are possible too. So you could do a pet/chess duel arena somewhere in your house and have podiums to overlook it all.

Reading that you have to participate in monthly events as I understand it in order to unlock more features for your house means it is possible that there is FOMO. Of course the FFXIV housing can use some updates to make it better and of course the housing perk in World of Warcraft where you don't lose your house by unsubscribing is also nice. But I will say that one thing that XIV has going forward is you have your whole house and you don't need to participate in events to unlock things for it (building wise).
