The "join duty in progress" change is ridiculous.

I understand that the intention is to allow players to experience a piece of content fully the first time and not, say, be dropped in halfway through a dungeon. But the problem is this has been haphazardly applied to everything, and that makes no sense.

Raids and trials are just a singular boss. It makes no sense to apply this to those. You are not missing out on literally anything by joining in late on a trial or raid. I only learned about this change through another player because some idiot crybaby ragequit after ONE wipe on day 1 of the patch on the trial. This makes it so much harder to refill a group when someone does this.

On top of all that, this is an option you have to voluntarily toggle in the Duty Finder settings. You accept the possibility that you could be dropped into the middle of a dungeon. If you are going through new content and you don't want that to happen, you could simply turn that off or only do it through Trusts until you've completed the new content. I don't really understand the purpose of forcing this on people when queueing for duties in progress was already not forced on anyone.

If you're really going to stick with this change, at least still allow people to late join on a trial or raid even if they haven't completed it before.

As I already said, this is an option you have to toggle on. It's off by default.
For those who care about it, you can toggle it off for patch day, do the content, and toggle it back on after you're done.
For those who don't care, you just leave it on and don't care.

Who is this for? This helps literally no one. I don't imagine anyone who cares about doing the content from the beginning would be so lazy as to not be able to simply untick a box.

Also you didn't say anything about what I mentioned of removing this from trials and raids, because they really should do that at the very least.

I had the same issue yesterday. Joined the new trial 4 minutes after it started, to find two tanks and 2 DPS had ragequit. We managed to fill DPS but not tanks, we waited for like 5 minutes. One of the DPS left and came back as a tank, it took two more minutes to find a new DPS and a second tank who had cleared it. It was slightly inconvenient, and it will be for as long as people are not done with the new content that released two days ago, but in the grand scheme of things I'm sure this change will be benefic to people like me who had this option ticked forever and often forget to untick it, haha.

How is this a positive change or reasonable?

- You alone OPT to join duty in progress, nobody else. With these changes, this is basically nullified.

Joining in progress is sometimes very meaningful as then you can finish MSQ faster and don't stress with entire boring dungeon which is one corridor copy/paste thing (who would have thought!). Even joining late alliance raids where they are at last boss is very helpful.

You will also redo this dungeon plenty times in the future due to how expert duty and others work. So don't worry about skipping a corridor dungeon.

Making these changes means that worlds that are dying will now suffer even more. Specially Chaos data center.

Those are the people who would benefit from this change. Not having this feature disabled for all first-time duties wouldn't help anyone, except for maybe people skipping through the story to level alt characters - but given how long it would take to do that without a cash shop skip anyway, the time saved from joining halfway through a trial/raid would be negligible. The positives of this change far outweigh any potential negatives imo.

There is 0 difference in joining midway for a trial or raid or joining fresh, other than chat being mildly annoyed at someone leaving

Also, this is an opt in feature, a new player will almost certainly never enable it

You also have the option to decline a "duty in progress" party when the duty pops. Granted, you may suffer a penalty, but the option is there.
