7.3 cliff hanger (spoilers, obviously)

We were told before 7.0 even came out to remember the convocation and what members were left. It was clear since fanfest that Ascians were going to be involved. I liked the msq this time around and luckily I haven't been under the illusion that this game is going to change it's course overall so I make due with what it is and sub/unsub when it works for me. Squeenix has made it clear they'll continue to do bare minimum and slowly at that.

Now that I've finished the story. All I can say is,
I cannot believe Square is doubling down on the SAME EXACT NONSENSE OF Interphos. Putting focus on Wuk in a 'subtle' recreation of the Endwalker. Anyone remember after WoL killed Zenos and woke up being healed? 1:1 retelling. It's worse because it wasn't earned. She was bleeding, but I could not care.

That said, I did enjoy Calyx's appearances and Sphene.

Side note, I still dislike how we cannot address G'raha Tia as Raha even though the man has earned it many times over. But the other characters and the WoL call Lamat as Lamaty'i

I think it was mentioned somewhere that family and close friends are given permission to drop the tribe name. Or something. Could be just fanon too. That's why Matoya calls Y'shtola Shtola. And Krile calls G'raha, Raha all the time.

When they said 7.3 was going to be a shift in the story to focus more on the wol, I can only assume they misspoke because this is probably the most I have ever felt like a background character in the msq.

People are mourning fallen comrades, making friendships, defending their kingdoms, etc... And I'm just standing in the background like "you want me to leave and give you guys a minute or something?" I literally don't have a connection to any of these people or places

But hey, thanks for letting the wol get the final hit on the terminal (for all it didn't matter in the end) and not having wuk lamat or sphene do it all themselves. I know that took a lot of restraint

100% Yoshi PR speech and damage control. I bet 7.1-7.3 was already cast in zone with minimal changes during the way. This is and has always been Wuk Lamats expansions for some odd reason. What a waste of a continent, the writers need to be fired honestly before 8.0 or we will get a similar lukewarm story with morals for children

The dialogue option "And don't forget me!" made me feel like I was in the cuck chair hahaha

After some thinking I think the winterers are not ascian but related to ascians in some way.
Since Ascians basically manipulated the entire history of the source from the beginning,and already turned 4th shard to void before the allagan,
its reasonable to expect all the shards is heavily influenced by ascians(or possibly other ancient's organization).
9th world's phenomenal technology can't be without the help of ancient and Calyx having connection with ascians or other ancient's explains that.
Overall I don't think its "Somehow Ascians returned" in a sense that we gonna fight over them trying to bring back ancient world by causing calamity but they're doing something different for different things(as there's no original ancients left) or simply ascians is just too big of a existence in xiv's universe that we can't avoid having it being mentioned.
Just like allagans still being mentioned or causing problem even tho it was lost thousand of years ago and got completely defeated by WoL way back in ARR.

I am not saying that it is YOUR fault the story is bad. You didn't write it. what are we even doing with this line of argument.

I am saying that players violently rejected the story and the characters because they thought it was bad, so it makes sense that they would turn back to plots and characters that were more accepted, rather than take another risk. which means Ascians. I would think that the "you" would have been understood to be a generic one, But I suppose not.

I don't think there was a single quest that said to go talk to Wuk Lamat. If anything, that makes it better

I don't mind the "It was ascians" all over again.
The writing and pacing was rough. I felt like we spent 2 seconds mourning the death of a supposedly close comrade, and 20 minutes talking about how an orphaned kid, who won the lottery and became king overnight with zero talents, education or parenting, feels completely useless in an emergency situation. 10 years playing this game, and almost 30 playing rpgs, and I've never wanted to punch my screen so much as every single time Wuk Lamat or Gulool Ja appeared on screen. I just couldn't take either of them seriously. And the amount of close ups Gulool Ja got this patch is insane.

I hope they learned their lesson and never try to take the spotlight away from the MC, which obviously being an MMO should be the player. I mean, if this was the starting point of the entire plot then sure, it could work. But after so many expansions, and the WoL gaining hero status across Eorzea, how did they even approve this?

That being said, I really like 7.3. Was everything I expected, and finally felt like I was playing XIV and not some weird fan made project.

Couldn't agree more.
And the two of them really managed to destroy all gravitas of a given scene to impressive degrees, turning anything they were in into children's cartoon levels whenever they appeared on screen. I'm morbidly curious how this disjointed writing came to be, though we'll probably never know.
