please stop genderlocking new gear :,)

hello!! i just wanted to make a little thread to air out my grievances with the continuation of new gender-locked clothing; particularly in regards to the new pvp gear set to come in 7.3. i'm always beyond excited for gear with this aesthetic as it really fits my interpretation of my warrior of light-- especially for the new shorts and leggings combo, seen on the live letter!

i was disappointed to find the new screenshot previews showed a male character in the same outfit as what i saw, however, dressed in slacks as opposed to the shorts i really liked. i expect to get a lot of "deal with it" or "it can't always be your way" sort of replies back here, which i can't quite change the opinion of. however, when square enix wants to present ffxiv as a more diverse and welcoming game than before, it feels baffling to keep up the endless onslaught of slacks for men as opposed to a simple set of shorts for a change. my poor miqo'te's gonna get overheated wearing all these slacks in tural

so, tl;dr: as someone who is personally gender non-conforming and loves to see it in their own characters as well, please at least give us the option to wear either the new slacks or the original shorts variant of the new pvp gear to come!! i think that female warriors of light should be able to try on some slacks for a change, too ) in the future, i'm sure that ending the whole thing around genderlocking clothing can save the dev team some work in making variants, too!!

I am so sick and tired of seeing cute shorts, trying them on, and they're pants on my character.

I want to wear cute shorts, and I am so tired of a single item having different designs based on male/female character model. I genuinely don't understand why this is such a problem the team has when designing these gear pieces, why they're so insistent on continuing to do it. They started unlocking gendered gear because they realized it was an issue, but then continue to do this kind of stuff. Why??

The blue outfit was already shown during the LL on a fem character with the shorts. Sure it could be separate leg pieces, but given the team's history of constantly making gear look different between masc/fem characters, there's almost no chance it's any different here.

Every time I see a new set of gear be pants on guys and shorts on girls, I turn into Little Beepo and my misery increases.


What makes this even worse is that the female version also looks. bad.

And just as we thought, there's literally 2 different versions of the Critical Hit B leg pieces and both are differentiated by gender instead of one being shorts and one being pants which would be what makes sense.

little beepo's misery is increasing

also uh, just some things i be noticing sometimes. getting non genderlocked gear out of duty content is a coin toss but they sure are prioritizing taking the genderlock off of paid mogstation glam instead... leaves even more of a sour taste in my mouth :/

Coming to add my two cents that I was also really wanting those asymmetrical shorts. I hate that we got 2 pairs of pants instead. It should have been one pair of pants and then the other the shorts. It was the only set of the new stuff I liked. I'm not into the modern glams all that much: the streetwear, techwear, etc. I was upset when the one thing I was looking forward to out of all the new gear was genderlocked. Again. It really needs to stop.

They started walking it back awhile ago. It feels like they realized that they could put the genderlocked piece onto one in-game set which changes based on character gender and they can now never be held accountable to go back and adjust it because it's not 2 individual items anymore like old genderlocked sets used to be. :c

Also, confirmed that it is genderlocked. Critcal B- sets in Universal Gear.
