I just got an account warning for "grief tactics" and I literally have no idea why

I've never been concerned about talking in FFXIV. When people complain about getting warned or suspended and say they have no idea, I really wonder at how they communicate.

And, specifically for PVP, yea it grinds me when people start making comments about throwing or start chatting about shit like what they had for dinner or what movie they watched. It would be one thing, if those players were getting 5+ KOs and 20+ assists. You are fighting and putting in an effort, make all the jokes and comments you want, personally I dont find it that disruptive to any chat commands. Invariably though, those are the ones that don't actually contribute anything to team success. If you are cracking jokes and sitting on 5+ deaths with no KOs and assists? I'd be tempted to report you too.

OP, it seems to me that you didn’t intend to imply anything bad by joshing around in the chat and I’m sorry you’ve been reported with no clear indication of what exactly it was. It’s really unfair that they don’t at least let you know what the offending action/comment was so that you can rectify the behavior, especially because not knowing the exact problem can just cause general anxiety around socializing in-game. I know some people feel strongly about taking Frontlines seriously but I don’t really think you meant any harm by it, even if it was accidentally discouraging for others. I personally like when my teammates joke around in there because I feel like I’m playing with real people.

Hardcore PVP enjoyers deserve to play their game as seriously as they’d like with other likeminded players, but for as long as the queue incentive is the way it is, there’s no real way around having casuals who just play… well, casually. You know, just doing what they can in this chaotic format and trying to find levity when it goes bad. I don’t think it’s a crime to be the latter but I can understand the frustration for the former. Still, a warning flag over it seems very overblown…

It might've been a joke but even jokingly suggesting that feeding the other team might make it go faster is seen as potentially wanting to throw the game if you don't clearly state that you're joking :/

There must be more to the story, i've talked plenty and even hit the stupid ASCII macro a couple times and never got anything. Like in most of these cases, the OP usually doesn't mention something or isn't aware of something that would've triggered the response. That said - reports don't get you banned, GMs review what you've done and THEN decide you've broken the rules, and apparently you did.


You probably spammed the chat with banter that, on its own might not get you actioned but the sheer quantity could've been a nuisance to chat coordination. The same thing happens if you overdo on the emotes or /say or /shout in major cities.

Not the strangest hting i seen. I have gotten an email on ffxiv about something i did on 11/24 even though i was at work the whole day until i got home and got on the game. Not sure what but apaprently i did somethign worth reporting even if i'm offline

Is it really that difficult to play a Frontline match without telling jokes? The chat is used for team coordination.

You can likely get away with a couple if you just can't help yourself, but if you got up to five I'm surprised you didn't get vote-kicked.

The punishment tends to depend on the GM who handles the report, but in NA it would be more common for you to get a 10-day suspension than a warning.

It's quite possible that any typing in chat in a FL match on topics other than the battle will get you reported. There isn't time in a fast-paced duty like that to be typing.

Simple solution, stop typing and play the game.
