I had a tight knit group of friends that played FFXI. While we all knew this was not going to be the same game, we hoped for the elements we loved in that game to be incorporated into FFXIV. Mainly speaking Notorious Monsters.

We camped VE for ages, figured out the placeholder had the time down were called RMT, then proceded to beat out the RMT that came around.
We camped Cassie, LoO, Spook, Serket, Simurgh, Lumberjack, Arthro, Megalobugard, Padfoot, and loved it. When we all purchased this game we had hoped that notorious monsters would be involved, it was our bread and butter how we made our money, and we were damn good at it.

Then they release NMs into this game and they are all U/U drops with no chance to make any money off them. The only NMs you could make money off were dodore, uraeus, buffalo, and lolmosshorn. Which all took a full party of 15 to kill. This was blasphemy to my tight knit group of NM farmers. 90% of them quit the game because of this and have yet to log back in. From time to time a few people log in to see if anything has changed, yet to no avail. Still no Notorious Monsters.

To plainly put it, people that complained and cried about RMT ruining the game in turn ruined the game for people who enjoyed the competition. The thrill of the hunt. Because they were too lazy to widescan for 3 hours straight looking for serket to pop. Or were too dumb to figure out that mobs had a 5 minute respawn time and that every lotto NM had a placeholder so you kill the placeholder and in 4 minutes and 50 seconds you widescan until that placeholder popped as either a Damselfly or Valkurm Emperor.

Maybe I'm just being paranoid, maybe I just don't like being pidgeionholed into overstructured systems where I would prefer dynamics.
I'm waiting to see what kind of world 2.0 will be.
I don't like how instances have requirements either. Rather than abolishing instancing, let's get rid of instance requirements/time limits? I cannot see that temple in the concept art being possible to explore in 1 hour, same for the crystal tower.

Tanaka specifically mentioned that he wanted to keep players playing in the same world and would try to limit instancing, so it's tantamount to false advertising to drastically alter the game in such a way that the diametric opposite is now true.

I believe that there should be instanced dungeons (although doing 500 speedruns to get gear is stupid). And I believe there is a time and a place for instances. But Hamlet defences? Really now? This seems like something which, by nature, should not be instanced.

Sure the engine may not be able to efficiently handle 40+ models on screen at any time (which by the way is also related to personal system specs), however, it seems a bit contrived to go into an instance to defend a hamlet. I mean, there's just no sense of urgency there. I guess I thought it would be something you could just jump in an do (like a dynamic Guild Wars 2 type of event), but nope, just an instanced mod of FFXI's Garrison feature.

So, this is me begging for some info about anything cool open world. Something new that isn't in the pdf, something that I can drool over and squeal like a little girl.

So yoshi, can you give us anything? I think a lot of our patients are wearing thin. Especially with this latest patch... reasons I don't think I have to mention.

Ps. Please don't use quest-chaining for our open world content. Quest-chaining is the worst ever.

Also, any new clever thread titles that you guys can give me would be awesome. I'm only using this one as a joke, because my friend Lyndis got banned from the forums for a day with this thread title(not the reason why she got banned).
2.0 Already mentions roaming creatures, and HNMS. That's typically Open World.

have you tried it yet? it would be a joke if it was more then 8 at a time, I guess they could increase the number of mobs and groups per instance but then you are dangerously close to the 40 npc & PC on screen cap
