Dawntrail character graphics update - opinions, requests and discussion megathread

Another LL, another opportunity to address the glaring facial issues still unresolved for a bunch of different races. Male miqo eyes STILL look dead if you play with face 4 (and it's not the only race this is an issue for), the eyebrows are still terrible on both genders and not at all the same...it feels very much like they've thrown their hands up and given up and are telling us who are unhappy with the changes to just deal with it. Which sucks, when your character is a completely different person to the character you played with for x number of years. I really expected better but maybe that's on me. When I submitted my bug ticket it was moved to "working as intended" and I'm sorry but that's unacceptable to me, especially when it's the result of lazy development moving all of the face rigs to the same mesh so that they can further streamline lazy gear designs. So much effort was wasted on the graphics (that weren't even bad in the first place!) that could have been better spent elsewhere in the game to make it good, and then we wouldn't have the "DT is the worst expansion" discourse that we have now.

I hope the devs prove me wrong and that they ARE still working on it in the background.

I'm sorry for jumping in to repost the mobile comparison I did a week or so ago. My sub has run out and I don't know when I'll post next but I dug out some better older pictures + took a better in-game pic in the mobile version. Also since there has been some discussion about still being unhappy had the update given us the what the mobile version had, I have to add that while nothing is *exactly* the same, the changes such as slightly narrower eyes and pursed lips matches the idea I have of the character based on what we had before better than what we have now. So no, they are changes I would have been fine with.

I wouldn't hold my breath but that's because of how badly burnt we've been since benchmark.
I'll believe it when I see it (or when they give us an actual framework, as the JP side has been asking for for months instead of "graphic gacha.")

Adding my voice as well.

I submitted reports about my characters back in September 2024: 1, 2
and I’d like to point out that they still look like completely different people.

Patch 6.58 and 7.25 screenshot comparisons:

It’s been a year now, and I still don’t have the heart to continue any story content when I can’t see my characters the way they always used to look.
I'd still occasionally log in for old raids, but even then, there’s no such thing as “getting used to the new face and growing fond of it instead” for me, lol.
When I look back at the old screenshots, I can’t lie, I’m much more fond of how their faces looked before the graphics update.

Since 2020 for my Au Ra and 2022 for my Viera, I’ve never felt the need to pick a different option for their facial features at all. I was always very happy with how they looked — everything was already perfect to me.

I understand that the graphics update is needed to catch up with today’s standard, and that’s actually fine with me — if only they had retained the shapes of the characters’ facial features, so they could "preserve the overall look that you know and love", as they once said.

Of course. But since I don’t actually know what particular parts you are looking for I’d just post them all.
Type 1 is jaw type 1, eye type 1, nose type 1, and so on. Type 5 is eyes and brows? I don’t remember sorry.

It's more than i hoped for, thank you so so much !!
i just really wanted to see the overall feel of the face, which was quite angular compared to the other faces, they also had more putty lips and looked older in general, and i feel like with DT they lost all that made them a bit special !
As you can see with the comparison :
(I couldn't do a proper DT screenshot because i canceled my sub so i have no access to the game, i took old screenshots from the msq, but i barely took some since, i'm still having a hard time to recognize my character, i lost the will to gpose and take screenshots in general)

Saw this post and it made me realize, the bodies of the characters seem to have higher quality on mobile. When are we getting that in the actual main game?
