Difficult experience in Forked Tower – a reminder to respect public content

I'm not sure where this point has come from. My point has been regardless of how any content is designed, players are intelligent enough to know if their behaviour (in this case, sniping) is discourteous to others. There is a bare minimum expected of people.

Do you nitpick the design of shopping trolleys and supermarket car parks when individual shoppers choose not to return the trolley to its original place? Or perhaps you think people who vocally object to that sort of behavour are the real problem?

I admire the hypocrisy when it comes to people's actions. How far we have fallen these days.

Sure you can say “even if you were willing to try they asked you nicely to let them do it without you and you didn’t listen”. Fair enough I wouldn’t even necessarily disagree

But OP is also willing to put in as much effort as they could and their performance shows they were never intentionally sandbagging

OP isn’t the problem here. I can disagree with their decision to still go ahead and stay on the platform when asked nicely and also admit they tried and that’s more than I can say for 99% of the snipers I got in my BA runs when I was a host

Ultimately this is squares fault. If you like the discords then attacking someone who tried their best when they got in isn’t getting you anyway. As a former BA host if the sniper tried then that’s all I asked from them and if you intentionally attacked a sniper then I always had more issue with you than the sniper

I think using the term "sniper" to refer to people who aren't Discord cattle (and its normalization) illustrates the core problems far more than any well articulated post can. It clearly has negative connotations and is used to create an opposing class of "others" - people who are simply trying to play the game but, for their own reasons - and there are many - don't want to engage with Discord, a Discord clique, or even worse, a Final Fantasy XIV Discord clique when this award winning community has a very remarkable track record of the most unhinged weirdos making everything awful for everybody. Just three examples include the Materia Discord (which managed to damage the launch of the OCE server far more than SquareEnix ever could), PVP Revival (https://www.revivalpvp.com/) and the Ser Aymeric bot (which was used to, amongst other things, commit actual real world crimes against children).

I've said it before in this thread and everybody seems to have come to the same conclusion anyway - the real problem here is the way that Forked Tower was implemented. But I think it's another issue entirely that Discord cliques and their cattle are so obnoxious as to label anybody who isn't a part of their wonderful little group as "snipers".

Discord servers don't own any part of content. It would be like a discord server trying to our the roulette system. Imagine if you got into an alliance raid and a group was all like "hey you can't be here unless you join our discord.". Not one person here would be ok with that. Well Forked tower is basically a roulette to enter. Whoever gets in DESERVES to be there because they were chosen by the entry system. It is not YOUR content, it is everyone that was chosen to enter.
So get over yourselves. You are the ones breaking TOS.

Which for the 8000th time the discords aren’t trying to organise people in this content for shits and giggles. Like do you really think discord would even be involved if this was CLL 2.0

The discords exist to fill a niche where this content can’t be completed without it. If they somehow managed to track and ban the use of discord in this content it wouldn’t free it up for people who don’t want to use discord it would just make the number of clears go to zero which you can see already in that any zone that doesn’t have a discord group In it the changes of a forked party “organically” forming are literally zero

Take this and replace "Sniper" with "Prog Liar" and make it about PF and this just falls apart. Does the fact a glowy platform is the entrance to the content, rather than a PF menu, mean that players no longer need to show basic courtesy to the majority participants who are entering with a specific objective? These terms are negative by nature because the behaviour for both snipers and prog liars are fundamentally discourteous and selfish.
