    My feedback as once starry eyed and now disillusioned player

    tl;dr I would hope developers ever read this, but at this point it's just me venting my frustration with the game as it is currently developed.

    With Dawntrail release I feel consistently betrayed as a customer. Expansion marketing promised a more lighthearted tone and I was very much excited for it, but those expectations were subverted in a way that was filled with tropes and blatant attempts to emulate shadowbringers. Exciting new abilities were so uniform it became a game between me and friend where I'd want him to guess which ability I unlocked. Saying "big finisher at the end of 2 minute cooldown" was almost always correct answer. Exploration zone was marketed as successor to Bozja and even here large scale duty subverted expectations by featuring mechanics like randomized entrance requirement, body checks and placeable tank buster areas which require coordination between the entire group and place it away from casual players.

    As a customer and casual player I feel very dissatisfied with current state of this game, especially when there are so many on the market that are licensed cheaper and with no time limit on interaction.

    In regards to the big finisher thing, I understand that part because they are trying to keep jobs balanced. They were pretty consistent in the media tour that they aren't going to look at job uniqueness until 8.0.

    Forked Tower having these mechanics isn't such an issue; the issue is really that they didn't have a CLL-level difficult instance in Occult, then a DRS-like system for Forked Tower where you enter via PF. Or at least, entering as a 48-player alliance should be possible and should reserve a unique Occult instance just for them.

    Tried of the "now" mechanics?

    I was running the newer dungeons on my main as a 740 Viper. 3 times I wasn't in any of the line of fire mechanics and was killed all three times. Even the other players saw me out of the target zones. This has been an increasing frustration with the recent changes to game. I'm running a direct connection with Fiber so my lag is under 3 ms. If I hadn't just renewed my sub I think I'm at point where I'm ready to quit the game despite all the hours played.

    Irrelevant. Cast time/red area is all that matters. If you are in the line of fire when the cast completes, then subsequently run out of the way, it will still hit or kill you when the effect/animation is processed. We call this snapshotting.

    So:
    1. Cast completes while you are in hit area.
    2. You run out while game processes animation and cycles through players to apply damage and sends out the hit/dead packets to clients.
    3. You see yourself die suddenly despite being out of hit area.
    If it doesn't obey these rules then you have some packet loss or an inefficient route - this can often be improved with a VPN.

    Or a you-know-what that SE could integrate into the game if they gave a toss.

    I find weird that some of the telegraphs have the animations delayed but others don't. If they can match the actual animation to the end of the telegraph, why they won't do it everytime? It surely makes the mechanics visually more appealing.

    One of the mysteries we'll likely never know the answer to. It gives new players a feeling that they're lagging when when in reality they just don't understand how the game works, yet. However, it's not a latency issue, it's just how they decided to design it.

    It isn't as bad as it was in ARR where you got attacks like Titan's Landslide going off 2 seconds after it snapshots who it'll hit, but the delay is still there. Occult Crescent seems to have a lot of serious cases where the attack goes off way after the targets are snapshotted.

    I think it's becoming more speedy to fit in line with their game direction from 8.0? I read something like that on the Black Mage Action Guide a couple months back.

    For some attacks you're supposed to read the boss's body language (like if raising an arm = about to cleave that half of the arena) or look at their cast bar. In those instances the ground AOE marker will only show for a second right when the attack happens. You're not meant to see that and dodge in a millisecond, it's more to communicate where the attack landed for future reference.
