Basically this subject has been beat to death, yet SE fails to do anything about it and this is for 1 reason. There will be no more dungeons until 2.0. They are most likely doing this to have content stack up over the course of the summer until 2.0's release. Though I agree with this general concept, I do not agree with how they are going about it.

In my opinion instead of make horrid drops, just restrict the number of times a person can complete a dungeon in a 24 hour time period and improve the drop rates. Currently with the body drops being at ~1% per chest this means that getting a specific body drop from that chest is ~0.5% chance. Grinding the same instance over and over like this is and never will be fun unless definite progress is being made. I remember in FFXI Salvage was the big thing people complained about with drops, but if I remember correctly the main item that would never really drop was the Phobo's Cuirass which had a 6.7% drop rate according to the wikia. I have seen lower drop rates, but never something as low as ~1%.

SE, for the sake of your game I strongly suggest that you fix this system. It seems that for completing Garuda you made a predetermined number of wins to get a weapon, so please now do this with the dungeons.

Yoshi says he sees this game as a Amusement Park. So far, in this park, when you ride the Hamlet go round, which is only available at certain times of the week, you told told not to ride again for 15 minutes.

Me- But there is no line and I'm having fun. I thought I was paying you guys so I could have fun on your rides.
Well there is a line, the server is only capable of providing instances for X amount of people, thats why the lock out is there, so that instances don't get flooded.

SE- Not my problem, you should play on one of our other attractions like Whack a Giga-toad or Crafter Button Masher.
You don't have to do that you can go farm Ifrit, Moogle, AV or CC as I said previously.

Me- Those are either really far away from here or completely boring to me. I don't have all day, can't I just do the Hamlet go round that I'm already here for and enjoy?
No you can't, Se need to provide everyone with an equal experience, which means a server capable of holding individual instances for everyone who wants to partake in the content.

SE- Nope, less access we give you the more you will enjoy it.
They arent' restricting you to inhibit your enjoyment, that would be the worst thing they could do.

In Final Fantasy XI, instances (which required seals and such) provided a large reward which dropped maybe 1-6% of the time (like peacock charm). However, these instances also contained a chance to drop other items, crafting materials, scrolls, and gil. We need something similar to this in FFXIV. Even if the party failed to hit the jackpot, they still received other items which could be a great value and usually provided some sense of accomplishment (I.e. not dark matter).

You make a poor attempt to discredit my claim. I look at it as more "hey, it works. So, why not?".

The content is designed so that you're encouraged to participate given that the event becomes available after a span of time. The main problem is that if you can spam it all you're doing is going against the RNG some more as well as clogging the servers because of the number of instances that have to be generated.

Again, pacing and gating mechanisms. They need to be worked on.

    * The sad thing is that FFXIV turned RDM into a turret, and people think that's what it's supposed to be. It's supposed to combine sword and magic into something more, not spend the bulk of gameplay spamming spells and jump into melee for only 3 GCDs before scurrying back to the back line like good little casters.
    * Design ideas:

In short the argument, SE has poor servers. I can buy that, they have said they are updating them for 2.0. Then I would expect this issue to minimized when 2.0 comes out.

I actually wouldn't hold your breath, obviously server will get better in 2.0 but I doubt it will stop them from making bad decisions, that being said I don't think lock outs are a bad thing, when there is more content there will be other options.

More importantly as a new player there will be more options, right now many of us are bored with Moogle and Ifrit and all we care about is the "newest" content, but I don't think new players will see it the same way.

I don't have to hold my breath. If they don't improve their ways, I will find a new game. That is all it really boils down to. I do hope they learn from their ways and from other MMOs. I would like for this game to become something awesome.

Timer lockouts and poor drop rates are old mechanics from much older MMOs. They do work... but not for long periods of time. Lots of us, playing currently, have faith in this game and the direction it is going. Sadly, if it fails to meet standards of the modern MMO market, our money will go somewhere else.

There are many ways to keep content fresh and wanted. They already did a few great ideas with materia and drops being trade-able for GC seals. Firefall is doing a system where doing content will open new content, for the whole server. If you don't maintain doing some of this content, some content will become unavailable. Eve Online and Dust 514 are making action in one game affect another. A battle in Dust 514 will change if a sector is under control of another group in Eve Online. GW2 has a ton going for it, I don't even know where to start.

Point being, lockout timers (for servers I'll understand) and low drop rates are poor ways to keep players playing and interested in content. I expect higher quality from a SE product, Skinner reward systems do not impress me as a player.

I'll agree with you on the drop rates need to go part, but not on the restrictions.

Instead of upping drop rates, just remove all the gear drops from raids and have them run on a token-based system where you earn tokens based on your group's performance (Monsters killed, killed all imperials, miniboss killed, etc.)

If SE switched it so that there is a 24 hour limit and increased drop rate, people will come in here complaining about how they have to wait every time they don't get the gear they want.

If SE just made it overall easier to get the gear, then people will come out to say that ever char has the same 'epic' gear and individuality has diminished.

If SE did everything that everyone wanted, then everyone else will come out and say that they deserve the same.

In conclusion, you can't satisfy everyone.

As for me, I am just going to enjoy the idea of everyone on a server helping to complete an event together as a community. If I get some gear out of that, sweet. If I don't, I will eventually. No rush.

Have you tallied up 600 speed runs yet? There's low drop rate, and then there's crazy-shit-bonkers
