A curious thing, blizzard couldn't figure out how to do it with wow, and hired an outside team to do it. They delivered the void chest.
Figure the same team could do the same for ff14 if squenix really wanted...

basically, every time you obtain an item it's added to a checklist where you can glamour it forever without keeping it in your bags or a dresser, and you can freely delete it afterwards or whatever you wish

I'd make it some kind of magic mirror, and in game lore is that it can bring to life anything that you ever spiritbonded with. It would replace the armour as that's just a static "yes/no" list anyway. This would mean the only thing you'd store in the glam dresser are things you wanted to dye a colour and use in more then one plate.

Course, we'd still need a plate per job....

It's always been like this since its inception in 2003 actually when it was still basically the equivalent of an indy MMO. EvE online has always had infinite inventories for static inventories: so, hangars in stations that cannot move, otherwise ship cargo was not only limited for obvious gameplay reasons, but also because like XIV or any MMO, moving them around cannot work with infinite amounts. The sad reality is that the glam dresser is supposedly a static inventory as well, which should only require fetch requests to a server.
