They really don't have that luxury. SE generally take huge losses on all of their projects other than FFXIV. FFXIV is carrying the company and instead of investing the revenue back into FFXIV, they keep pumping it into doomed slop like Forspoken. And that only works for small companies. Big companies - like Square-Enix - can just turn off all servers if players decides to play something else. And it wouldn't affect its core business as much as it would in small companies.
So S-E have the luxury of ignoring its costumers and get away with it.
Not all.
There were other successes here and there, although FFXIV is still the main breadwinner for company. There are a Dragon Quest title that sold as much as Dawntrail, the 2nd FF7 remake installment that's now #72 at Steam's best seller list (FFXIV is #84), etc.
They won't escape unscatched, but S-E won't go bankrupt as soon as FFXIV's servers is turned off. Ok, turning FFXIV off will be a tank buster in S-E's revenue, but for a company with many lucrative IPs, like Square-Enix, they'll tank that heavy blow.
So, yes, they have the luxury of ignore its customers and get away with it.

Square does well in the AA and A jRPG market but they have struggled in the AAA market for a while because FF games come out too slowly and don’t draw as much as they used to
Going for something like forespoken wasn’t really a bad business decision it just wasn’t a particularly good game
As a healer main in this game for nigh on 14 years all I can say is that I’m tired. My role has been eroded of complexity and expression for 3 expansions. I’ve watched the tanks do my role for me for 2 expansions and my feedback and critiques continue to fall on deaf ears.
I have no idea who modern healers are designed for but I know now it’s not me. This is the first expansion I’m truly considering dropping the healer role and not returning, so if that was the goal- congratulations I guess
They did the classic Square thing where they had this grand vision for the Forspoken franchise and invested a HUGE amount of money into it, planning sequels and spin-offs, only for it to flop and no one to have any interest in the IP.Square does well in the AA and A jRPG market but they have struggled in the AAA market for a while because FF games come out too slowly and don’t draw as much as they used to

It was very reminiscent of the The Spirits Within movie.
SE would benefit a lot from just investing into their existing successful projects instead of dumping money into crazy pipedream projects. Watching SE make the same mistakes over and over again is like watching a deadbeat Dad gamble away his family's life savings.
How many times are they going to narrowly escape bankruptcy?

Looking at the history of projects SE decided to invest I can say they had either a very bad marketing team who did an awful job at market research and upcoming trends/ predicting shifts in the customer preferences or a dude in high power who had stupid random, fixated ideas that were just detrimental for the company overall. They did the classic Square thing where they had this grand vision for the Forspoken franchise and invested a HUGE amount of money into it, planning sequels and spin-offs, only for it to flop and no one to have any interest in the IP.

The last part was confirmed, as the owner was hyper-fixated on NFT garbage for a while.
So when does the strike start?
we should #anti warrior
Too bad, it already happened in South Korea (at NCSoft and Kakao Game HQ) and China. (even worse for China, since a player even assaulted with a knife MiHoyo/Hoyoverse founder in their Shanghai HQ because of an update for one of their game XD)
