Square Enix is very lax towards this sort of thing. If he plays on PC, there is a 90% chance that he will run into this material on the Crystal datacenter. Make sure he plays a MALE character (this is very important). Otherwise, God help you and your household.

Second, this also isn't like World of Warcraft or other games where you can start playing on any server. You can only choose from a few, and those few can change depending on the day or season. Square Enix is not a wealthy company and cannot afford to operate servers with endless capacity. You will have to wait, not in the middle of the night like the good old days, but several months or even a year. Times are rough and Square Enix is having a hard time with capacity as it is. You chose FFXIV so obviously the tradeoff is worth it, but this game will involve a LOT of compromise compared to ones run by larger companies.
Game is ok as long as you don’t interact with anyone on more than a superficial “hey, go, ready, bye” level.

WOW has weird people but at least it’s ‘gameplay people’ so from my personal experience the worst you get is somebody telling you to die from cancer cause you didn’t heal him while he got hammered by 5 people in PvP but hey, at least they’re upfront and genuine but FFXIV has the actually dangerous people.

People are upfront and genuine, just not when it breaks the rules, like your example would. That example long slid past the GMs in WoW because they apparently didn't care enough about people being rude.

Are we now denying that ERP's are advertising their cringe ERP stuff public and in a loop? No matter what you do ingame you get confronted with it on a daily basis. MSQ, browising the Party Finder or just chatting with friends in limsa. You cant unsee it. FF14 is by far not a safe place for children even though its advertised as a 13+ game in most countries.
Someone telling your kid to "get cancer" in wow is by far not as bad as some h*rny cringelord cybergrooming your child.

It's been a long time since I've seen shout spam that's explicit. PF listings can push it on occasion but it's still rare for them to say something explicit. Usually it's innuendo so players can infer what's meant.

So here are the things to consider:

What preteen would want to look at PF in the first place? PF is a goal-oriented tool and preteens rarely play in a goal-oriented fashion.

Even should the preteen choose to look at PF, how many are going to understand the innuendo in some of those listings? If they understand it, they've already been exposed in other places.

Finally in the OP's case the intent is for their child to play with them, not to play independently.

It's up to a parent to decide if their child is mature enough to play and if they will need supervision or can play independently. There are also the parental controls to enable as needed.

Trying to shelter a child from exposure to life's realities doesn't protect the child in the long run. Educating them about the danger and teaching them how to react so they stay safe is far more effective.
