For some people, they will see the price of crafted gear and go, "Wow people pay this much? I should get into crafting." and so begins a journey towards another aspect of the game. If people don't want to choose that path, they have options to do so. There's a half-dozen other ways to earn gil either through hunts or reselling or doing treasure hunts.

I suppose the short of the matter is that if you took away the level requirements we'd see another post with the same title further down the line saying, "The reason new players don't do crafting is because they don't see a reason to."

You can just ask a crafter friend/FC mate to make you a crafted set? The friend who makes them for me always just tells me which materials to get him and that's it.

Pretty sure players don't raid because they don't like raiding.

    TLDR

The game and vet players gate keeps new players from trying savage because to try savage on release you need full set crafted gear and vets sell crafted gear at 20million ++ the highest gil sink in the game more than mansion.

Fix: Pls move mandatory raid entry item lvl to repeatable tome gear. That way new players that want to savage raid can form their own parties if vets want to put a item level requirement of the craft gear in party finder they can do that too. I just want a chance to enjoy savage raid on release without all the problems stated above.

Side Note: Crafters your prices in the game has ruined the game I hope SE nerfs your margins into the ground.
For what its worth, it's not just you I agree 100%.

I guarantee you people who say crafting your own is easy and can be done quickly are using a huge library of addons, that smooth the experience, take of of the infuriating experience and remove the drag. (changing jobs while crafting, keeping windows open, what to collect, where to collect it, even which teleport to use, even auto macro, even auto proc adjust)

Earing gil is easy? Not if you spend your time doing other things you enjoy in game like just... running... roulettes. Not if you don't like doing artificial things you don't enjoy like braindead hunt farms. unsynced farms for desythn? XD not if your desythn level is still on about 160 after 4 years. Also unsynced farms... not fun don't have the time, trying to enjoy other parts of the game savage don't play. 8 months? not if you've been unsubbed.
Just do Extreme for a piece of gear? These players have no idea how long it takes to prog Extreme if your don't have 3 people to join you from you savage static, or don't know how to ruthlessly police the PFs you spend you will and will not spend you time in.

I mean just look at the complexity of some of the suggestions. A piece from here. 2 pieces form there. One from there. ???? WTF?

You and I know what you mean.
I play my casual roul game >
I play my casual raid game >
I play my Extremes game >
(buying gear is ok, but it needs to be possible wit the gil earned doing all the above alone. The above is a 'lot'. Maps are out. Needs PF and organisation and scheduling. Also repetitive and boring and again pretty baindead. Its fun once every 2/4 weeks)
(crafting your own is out until they drastically simplify crafting and gathering or give us 80% of the QoL fixes that add-ons provide.)
Now you are ready to play savage. Start of Week 3 'absolute LATEST'

All above achievable without being a cut-throat PF Machiavellian narcissist sociopath. "Progliars! We need a shamelist"

Best thing I can recommend is that you consider if you enjoy all the guides and having to remember where to stand every 20 seconds of a 10-15 minute fight. If you don't, maybe the silver lining is that gearing for savage is just playing stupid games to win stupid prizes.

Yeah playing the content while its current is what its all about at the end of the day. And having fun while you do it. If they don't want to listen to you, well, we all know what that means for your sub ultimately.
    You tried to help.
    You're not alone.

(I'm back because friends are but... if the amount of time they spend logged in is a sign of how much fun they are having... things are not looking good. All the talk of the field operation has lead to a false start and an accidental resub. That could turn out to be fatal.)

Most players don't raid because they don't like it for any number of reasons. Mine is that I don't want to spend hours in pf waiting for a shot at the fight, much less deal with the pf culture which includes doing homework on a fight by going outside the game onto YouTube.

I promise you, most people don't even get to the gear part of the equation if they're not raiding.

Which means that including you there are 3 people out there that want to practice this raid. 3. Sounds like a very niche issue to me.

Maybe the real issue lies somewhere else?

LOL. Why do you even want to raid week one or day one? All I see are a bunch of excuses for the sake of ranting.

    Possible solutions:

    1. Craft it yourself (especially if you took the time to go through MSQ and dabbled in other content.)
    2. Ask a friend to craft for you
    3. Gather stuff while you wait and sell
    4. Apply to a static and ask if they know anyone who could help you gear up.
    5. Ask in the NN for any of the craft mentors if they could help you, and negotiate with them for a price (like you providing some of the materials and sub crafts)
    6. Wait for 2 weeks until guides are out and gear is already a fraction of the price.
    7. Do a budget-friendly build where you combine some of the crafted pieces with the normal version of them.

Also, I highly doubt you can even fo BiS with crafted gear fresh out of msq since you need to penta meld. There is no way you will have enough materia to do that..lol.

I personally don't have problem with crafting gear, but I don't like you can pentameld it. What is the point getting 340 gear from normal raid once you can craft 340 and pentameld it with more stats?

I think there should be alternative way get entry level gear. If you can pentameld crafted gear, I think you should able pentameld that 340 raid gear too and do that with NPC or crafted gear should be 5 -10 item level lower than raid gear.

    Why’s this thread revived? Lol.

The OP probably already learnt a thing or two since then. Selling combat materias when people are hot on pentamelding & selling the tome mats are lucrative ways to get quick gils more than what you need if you don’t want to craft them yourselves in these periods.

If that’s not enough then all I could think of is plainly bad management… or bored in-game because stirring pot in OF is more fun lol.

How big time sink do you think progging savage is? Crafted gear is a minimum item level, because it is a minimal gear you need to have damage for sucesfull kill (Talking about average player). If you go with lover item level, you will basically become a leech, nothing more.

Also. I have crafted my crafter gear, melded it, crafted my savage gear and again, melded it just a day before savage released in about 4-5h. Thats nothing compared to hours spent progging. If you don't want to bother with obtaining your gear, you have no place in Savage. Simple as that. You are gonna lose dedication very soon.
