[dev1003] Joining a Grand company suggestion

When this was released an the quest staggered with updates it was fine take your time an complete them ready for each patch, but now its just a massive boring chore to do the 9(?) quest needed to pick your GC. Been redoing them for a 2nd char/mule recently, so I am aware of how long it takes to do it all at once.

Im suggesting that it should be made shorter in some way because its so long an drawn out its will just put people off of the game and seeing as being a GC member is essential to the game it should not be so long and boring.

As an example starting in Gridania the traveling goes something like this:

Adders nest > camp tranquil > small hamlet near it > kill mob > back to hamlet > adders nest > emerald moss > kill mob > adders nest > camp drybone > that cave with the people south of camp > uldah GC > ferry port > kill mob > ferry port > uldah GC > golden bazar > limsa GC > bloodshore > wineport > kill mob > wineport > limsa GC > camp glory > npc south from sheep nm > limsa GC > uldah GC > grid GC

That is 14 teleports/returns an lots of walking to complete the 6 lvl 22 quest. Yea I may have missed some steps or put incorrect locations but you get the idea of the point am making. Also your not done yet! 1 more quest to do at each GC and the optional quest for totorak before you can join.

It should be something much more simple like talk to all 3 GC, complete a kill quest once that covers all 3 (not the same fight 3 times in 3 places) > talk to all GC > choose your GC > get your chocobo > done.

Remember it is just a suggestion not starting a fight or asking for flame wars.

    Hello,

I appreciate it could take a long time to get it done (I had the added benefit of having to 'grind' seals so I could afford a chocobo license). However, there are a few things that I think need to be pointed out:

    1) I do not think it is 'essential' to be in the Grand Company (nor do it as quick as possible). All other story lines, jobs, and areas are open even if not in a Grand Company. The only restriction really is GC specific quests (which are fun, but not needed), items (which are nice, but not neeed or typically the best), and the Chocobo (which is important yes).

    2) The upside of the 'long quest' is that there is a lot of story. This long quest really makes us experience what the core of each of the Grand Companies are what would it feel like to be in a specific one. The quest actually helped me choose which Grand Company I was in.

So yes, I sympathize if one sees GC as a mean to an end (Chocobo), but it really is so much more than that. Perhaps the issue of 'a lot of work to get a chocobo' needs to be addressed, and a better means of getting a chocobo could be made available.

    people dont want to grind.
people dont want to do quest.
People dont want to read the story.

what exactly do you want to do in this game then? runing around in circles?

Im pretty sure you cant do darkhold, totorak, aurum vale, ifirt and garuda if you have not joined a GC.

Your reply really adds nothing, The point is I want people to enjoy the game and carry on playing it. Soon we have the welcome back event people are going to come back an realise what a massive hassle joining a GC is. If they dont do it they cant do a lot of the games content an they will be put of the game.

The story part of GC quest is good but does a person really need to see pretty much the same story 3 times?

yes they need to so they can decide what GC they like most based on its story.

Fair point, I had not realied that. I had no interest in toto-rak, and the rest are level 45+ (50 actually), which left me oodles of time to do GC before it even became an issue. Perhaps it can just be done at a slower pace, rather than rushing. This might make it more enjoyable?
