Thancred's new face

+2 agreed that what they did to Thancred has made him look like he's been replaced by an impostor. That's not my guy. That's some guy vaguely cosplaying as my guy, and it takes me out of the story and actually actively demotivates me to play. With every "good" NPC update we get, it feels more and more like a slap in the face that they radically altered his visuals and called it a day. I know it isn't Square's policy to comment on these things generally, but any acknowledgment or indication of awareness of this issue would be really nice.

For real. It's like this is the Lahabrea Thancred they couldn't make happen in ARR so they're making up for it now only he never gets to turn back into his normal self.

It’s super frustrating that they spent so much time making sure Emet would look as close to himself as possible, as they SHOULD—but he’s only present in 2 expansions and some patches. Thancred is in every single expansion, and all of his models look off. :/ Really disappointing to consider that they didn’t think it was worth the effort to keep his unique features intact.

it's genuinely getting frustrating seeing as all of us have been collectively posting about this on the forums for months, just begging to be seen and it feels as if our complaints are falling on deaf ears :/

I was really hopeful with 7.2 graphical updates but nothing has changed. Why aren’t they listening?

Adding my +1 to this because what they did to Thancred was absolutely heinous. I was hoping that essentially nine whole months after Dawntrail's release we would at least receive some sort of acknowledgement seeing as players on both the JP and EN sides of the community are raising their voices, but apparently prioritizing a NPC that appears for a singular expansion was far more important than one of the beloved Scions that's been around since 1.0 and continues to appear in MSQ. It's downright insulting that almost every single NPC that's received an update so far has come out looking better than ever, but Thancred doesn't even look like himself anymore.

I'm normally more inclined to jump to the devs' defense when stuff like this happens, but there is absolutely no excuse for letting this go for this long and continuing to update literally every other NPC in the interim while acting like they aren't even seeing this feedback. Even disregarding the update to Emet (congrats to Emet enjoyers btw, at least some of us are winning), I'm still trying to wrap my head around the decision to completely yeet a NPC's unique facial textures and replace them with the generic player character version.

Absolute clown behavior from the dev team on this one. I'm beyond disappointed.

Really well put. I feel exactly the same way, especially about normally having grace for the devs but being extremely disappointed with how this has been handled.

While I normally run a six-month sub, I've been considering unsubbing the longer this goes on. I'm deeply unhappy about Thancred's treatment, amongst other issues, and if they are not interested in improving or in communicating to us that they're aware when things like this are issues, well, I've got plenty of other games I could spend my time on.

I’m also disappointed by Thancred’s model update. His eyes don’t look as nice with the highlights, his lips are thinner and his nose is different. I’ve seen some people say his skin has a weird reddish texture too.

Thancred’s my fave character so it’s disappointing it’s so far into Dawntrail’s release without any word or comment esp when other characters updated models look nice.

Just wanted to thank everyone for so much input, support, and effort to keep this thread alive.
I am personally never going to give up on this until we get the changes we've been requesting.
No amount of "You guys are overreacting" will make a difference.
There are very clearly MANY of us who don't like this change.
If the face change doesn't bother you, then it isn't your concern. It's just something we really care about.
