They only did that probably because that specific gear was gained through Diadem and after that content was permenantly removed from the game, it was just easier to do a replica set rather than set up some other way of gaining that gear (and also keeping a sembelance of 'exclusivity' for the real thing). So it was an exception rather than the rule.
Yes I know it's a lame excuse, but yeah, that's what SE chose and they're sticking to it.
