Yoshida also said that viera and hrothgar hat compatibility would be something that would be gradually introduced throughout Shadowbringers, nearly 6 years ago. I can't take him at his word anymore, especially with timeframes.I can't provide a link because it was probably in Japanese and thus hard to google, so you'll just have to trust me on that one, but as far as I know Yoshida said in an interview a while ago that the objective was to have the double dye channels fully implemented by 7.3.
Even if I've been puzzled by their logic and priorities that sometimes feel very counterproductive (even aside from the graphical update: releasing that new housing interior remodeling feature that requires you to remove every item BEFORE increasing the number of items that can be placed and stored, which is something that was announced some time before 7.0.....? and it's not available for FC rooms and apartments...? why???), it's safe to assume that textures, models, and dye channels are being updated at the same time. They've been prioritizing AF gear, relics, and lvl 1 gear like Island Sanctuary and premium stuff for now because they're probably the most popular (according to stats or their own biased opinion, who knows), but eventually they'll have to deal with every piece of gear.
I think that on this particular point it's simply a question of patience, even if it is frustrating that it's taking so long, and that so little official, international communication about it is being released.
But are the double dye channels on old gear going to be any good, or will it be another "you can now dye the thread on this button!!" situation, that's another question...
That was during Endwalker, not Shadowbringers. During Shadowbringers they maintained the stance that not having hats or the opposite sex was by design and wasn't a priority.
That narrative changed when they announced male Viera and female Hrothgar were in the works, but stated the other two variants for the races would take priority to hats.
