The "World Chat" in this game is /shout. Just need to find an area with lots of players, such as Limsa Lominsa or other city states.

There are also:
- Free Companies (see the Community Finder).
- Linkshells and Cross-world linkshells (also see the Community Finder).
- Thousands of discord servers.
- You can do content in Party Finder. Typically doing content there allows you to meet and chat with people while filling, forming a bond and sometimes friendships. This could be maps, hunts, Blue Mage stuff, unsync farms, doing dungeons, Wondrous Tails, Unreal/Extreme, old raids, any other raids, etc.
- You could also try out large-scale content that can be more chatty, such as Alliance Raids, Eureka (and its raid BA), Bozja (and its raids such as DR and DRS), and the upcoming large-scale areas in Dawntrail (Shades' Triangle and Cosmic Exploration).
- You can also try to find likeminded people in the Fellowship Finder, because despite the memes, some people put adverts there looking for people interested in the same things.

The issue I see with a world chat is that everyone can be in it, including the bad apples. When I play virtually any other MMORPG, I see these bad apples in their world chats. They paint an absolutely awful picture of their game, to me, as a casual player of those games.

It's much better, in my opinion, to find your way into a closer knit group of people that have a lower chance of being bad apples than if you enter a chat with everyone in it.

Bots are a concern, by the way. They used to enter the Novice Network, so SE stopped inviting new players into it automatically, and instead asked Mentors to use Player Search and invite them, carefully avoiding obvious bots.
