Honestly theirs a few things wrong with the current combat/gameplay

    1. Jobs need more RNG aspects such as Procs, these sort of skills are actually the most interesting and can change up rotations on a fly instead of following a standard rotation, this sort of RNG is more healthy and interactive then just crit/dh rng which doesn't really interact or change how you even play.
    2. More varied GCD timers, outside of just a few melee jobs being faster, not to say I don't like the standard 2.5 but it wouldn't hurt having some more "faster gcd jobs" while also having slow gcd more weave dependent jobs.
    3. More damage buttons on Tanks/Healers, tanks are very boring 1, 2, 3 spam burst button, healers are DOT, One damage button spam sometimes press a extra dps skill on sage once in a while.. give tanks and healers way more damaging buttons.
    4. More outgoing damage that makes use of Tanks and Healers, these roles really currently theirs nothing justifying their extensive kit with so many mit/heal skills, have more outgoing damage so they actually get to also use it on top of damage skills
    5. Improve Dungeon design, they're boring enough said.
    6. More role base mechs and responsibilities, not just DDR don't get me wrong I like mechs but I feel like Jobs are no longer a thing and all encounters are basically just "dodge stuff" doesn't really feel like a RPG game anymore.

Funny how everything you're saying is a blueprint for Square Enix to go in the opposite direction of.

Here's the thing: when the gameplay is lacking, the story needs to be really good to compensate. When the story is lacking, the gameplay needs to be good to sell it.

    ...

DT might be at the worst its been in years for both aspects of the game.

But frankly it boils down to the same few causes:

    - they are scared to death that they need to engage more than a few brain cells from players (that's why the story will repeat the same points over and over again until you get it)
    - they are siphoning resources away and making junior devs maintain the game
    - they can't do anything that isn't in Yoshi P's spreadsheet and have to follow a strict template. It seems like there's even an MSQ template lmfao

I for one enjoy a character repeating their motivations for 10 times minimum REALLY loudly, while the writers do their best to slam the "theme" of the expansion in my face, preferably while naming them in the dialogue like a movie title at me. While a villain gives his speech with dramatic music about some pseudo-philosophical armchair take the writer read in some coffee-table book once. "oooo death is a part of the cycle and necessary" while solution 9 bumbles around filled with "theme-npc's" who have no other purpose than to feed you the "theme" of being afraid to die because its such a new feeling they have never ever thought about. How does their society even function. (7.2)

Honestly this makes me sad. I remember actually genuinely being surprised in 2.55. I was so shocked seeing Nanamo die (until they retconned it in 3.0). The clues were all there in hindsight, but man, that was good foreshadowing and good subtlety. Maybe it's time I just finally regarded that as a fluke, an accidental genius, and moved on.
