I'll be honest: I think people would've hated Moenbryda just as much as Wuk Lamat if she had the same amount of screentime during the MSQ.

Any character would be pretty much disliked if they were put excessively into the foreground like that, so yeah. The issue is not Wuks personality, its her omnipresence.

We didn't have enough time to learn to miss her.

NPCs are more popular when they rotate in and out of the ensemble cast. We go whole arcs without Y'shtola, Thancred, Urianger, etc, so that when they finally show up again, we got an "Oh shit it's DADCRED" and we're happy.

The twins tend to be a bit more involved than I like, but even they got put on Garlean duty in Endwalker so they weren't around all the time.

I'd say it's both. With both issues compounding onto each other.
We got one of the worst written characters in FFXIV, and the MSQ also solely focuses on her.

tbh id agrue that y'shtola is the worst character written the amount of asspulling she gets every expansion and the only price she has paid for it is going blind which turns out to be a benefit not a punishment price for what she did she basicly dies every new area in the game more so after yoshi' lie pre endwalker saying "there is a price to pay" nope didnt happan asspulled the scions alive AGAIN for the 1000th time honestly at this point the scions are even worse than wuk.

All the good characters they killed off the little lalafell with a btchy attidude killed pre stormblood, zenos senpai killed, zero we probably will never see again since se went lazy on voids story, emet-selch dead and Dark meteion dead any good character worth a damn they kill off
