Really is puzzling how a request to increase our options for entering contests can be so controversial.
Having worked from a large company's social media account before, I know that platforms get revenue from pay-per-click engagement. Our social media team was handled through marketing, which doubled as customer service. If clicks on one site are worth more than others, then a platform loses money when users migrate—like from Twitter to Bluesky. The exact earnings per click vary, but surprisingly, this aspect isn't discussed more often. While reach is significant, engagement clicks matter just as much, and losing them to a platform that pays less per click can be costly.
Since many users have been open about why they want a Bluesky account, this shift could cost SE money—not just in engagement but also in advertising revenue. There's more marketing nuance than people realize; it’s not just copying and pasting the same post. It runs deeper than that.
The fact that this contest is on Twitter rather than the forums suggests that SE is actively prioritizing revenue from engagement clicks. Posting on Twitter generates those clicks and boosts visibility by appearing on users' feeds, effectively serving as free advertising for the game—a win-win for SE. From a marketing perspective, the decision to exclude Bluesky likely has little to do with reach and more with the fact that they want those clicks on Twitter specifically. SE is likely waiting for Bluesky to increase the payout for engagement before they make an account or work out some business deal. The price for a verified badge relative to the cost per engagement might not be where SE's marketing team currently wants it to be for their benefit.
They already have a primary account made a month ago with https://bsky.app/profile/square-enix-games.com, so I'm sure the FFXIV team has already considered their options. It's probably a matter of time.

99.99% chance probably a Titanman alt
Thank you mods for finally removing that other thread.
It just a matter of time tbh, X is a lame name for a lame buyer who bought it.
Time for them to Radioactivate this one. The amount of cognitive dissonance blooskai users have to think that after that thread the community team is even considering going there is astronomical.
Uhm. SQEX is already there. I imagine the team have discussed adding a FFXIV account. And that by the end of the year it'll be there.

Inb4 the next X contest comes up and there is another thread "Why is the BlooSkai account dead?".
This is more about alternatives to twitter, because people do not want to support a nazi.
I don't think it's particularly controversial, I just don't think it's likely given SE's track record. They didn't move contests to Twitter until what? 2018? They're very late adopters when it comes to social media and whatnot.
I can't see them moving to Bluesky unless it looks like it has a good chance to overtake Twitter as the primary platform for people to yell at clouds on the internet.
