I think if it was about FFXIV it could then be within FFXIV. Although, on one hand I feel FFXIV has enough work making normal jobs feel unique, but on the other hand I could see a sort of 'super adventure' for FFXIV, where they go all out with a game within a game. Perhaps combine it with a revamp of verminion (its kind of fun but has a few glaring issues that prevent it from, imo, being a solid game mode). If the game mode is fun, then can add sagas over time- like telling stories from the perspective of other major characters. Louisoix leading up to Dalamud. The GC leaders before we know them. The dragon war, etc. As an aside, Tower Defense could be another fun mini-game to add (and reuse minions from verminion if you add Maul / Line Defense (wc3 games)).

Or since I've been playing plunderstorm recently (WoW's sort of fortnite), honestly a smash em together tactics style could probably work (unlikely to maintain the turnbased stuff tho..)- where you quickly grow jobs and make your own. Blue mage would probably fit well there too.

I feel though, if it is an entirely stand alone game, that I kind of hope it is in the tactics world.

Oh, but that's the fun part, there is no such a thing as a consistent Tactics world!

Okay, so, there are 3 Tactics games, you may know all this but I enjoy laying things out, so bear with me, Final Fantasy Tactics, which originally released for PS1, and it is set in Ivalice, Final Fantasy Tactics Advanced, for the GBA, and it is set in Ivalice, and Final Fantasy Tactics A2, which is a sort-of sequel to Advanced, and set in Ivalice... except "Ivalice" is being used like the town's bicycle here, and none of these games are set in the same Ivalice.

FFTA is set in a false Ivalice created by the grimoire found by Mewt Randell, trying to shape a world that would fulfill Mewt's desires, it is completely separate from any other game... except TA2, which is set in real Ivalice, and their connective point lies in Mewt's original world, where Luso Clemens finds the grimoire, and perhaps lacking a deep wish the same way as Mewt had, was transported to Ivalice by it, but the real one, notably this Ivalice is confirmed to be the same Ivalice as FFXII's, thanks to Vaan and Penelo being optional party members, set an nondescript amount of time after FFXII.

What about original FFT? okay this is where it gets a bit convoluted, originally the land where FFT takes place was not named, and only later stated to be Ivalice, with the official statement being that it is set in an Ivalice so far ahead in time than any other that Humes are the last remaining race in the world, this is largely because they were trying to retroactively justify the absence of the other races, this means that even if FFT is set in the same Ivalice as FFTA2 and XII, it's such a different cultural landscape they have hardly anything in common, and might as well be another place altogether.

My point being, that while Tactics is strongly tied to Ivalice, there is no such a thing as "the" Ivalice, with each game displaying almost completely distinct world while keeping some common traits, like the races of Ivalice, or the gameplay style, this is why I suggested setting a potentially XIV-connected Tactics game on our Ivalice, it would allow us to tie into one of the constants of Tactics games, while still keeping it within the context of XIV.
