I'll add my voice to counter that the graphics updated was much needed and not the issue at all. It doesn't matter to most people if the characters are ever so slightly different than before lol. Everyone I know quit did so because there was not enough content to keep them hooked and the expansion story was bad.

Even Yoshida admitted to falling asleep in his own game. And so do we.. Hence my signature.

Dog it's not that hard. I'm saying this is a very very tiny minority of players. Even if it was a lot of people on the forums. The forums is also a tiny minority of players. You're treating it like a huge issue. It isn't.

The negative sentiment on these forums represents a very large amount of people who feel the same.
And indeed, most players don't read the forums. They quit silently without saying a thing, leading you to believe things are better than they are.

There are still white knights; most just stay on Twitter though to continue the white knighting and constantly say everything is perfect, it's the best expansion yet, etc etc.

As for the graphics update stuff since that seems to be what the current thing being discussed in this thread is: I have no doubt that A FEW people did quit FF14 because their character didn't "look good" anymore due to the update. Some players do hyper-fixate on how their character looks, and even the smallest changes to details can "ruin" their character in their eyes, and if they do not want to try and play around with the other character creator settings to change up/fix their character, do not want to change to a different race, or do not want to attempt to deal with the changes made to their race and whatnot and gradually just get use to it, then that's just kind of...well, it for them. I don't really care about the graphics update myself, and I honestly cannot even tell that there is an update with many of the graphics and textures and characters most of the time. I won't however drag people or call them weird or stupid and whatnot if they are someone who absolutely despises how the graphics update treated their character and that is a main reason for them leaving. It's different strokes for different folks and whatnot and that is perfectly fine, not going to judge people over it.

However: the graphics update is so minuscule to all the rest of the issues that are currently plaguing FF14 that the graphics update really only attributes to like...0.01% of the player-base leaving, which is being super generous, and in that case the graphics update in those player's eyes was just so absolutely awful and completely butchered their vision of the world / their character that they just didn't want to look at it anymore and quit. Once again I have no doubts a few people have actually left because of the graphics update, but compared to the other reasons players are quitting, it is really just a non-factor overall.

yeah, forums have always been a very minor part of the entire community

but there are always those that figure, somehow, that almost everyone in game comes here... they do not and have not for any mmo I have ever played. but every snowflake feels they are special after all

Pretty sure that one group of people who complained about the game in the forums non-stop and kept a discord together probably referred to me as a white knight and I'm still here while they've disappeared.

Eh. Most of the excitement is at the x.0 patch and the lead-up and then it peters out. I took long breaks after 2.2, 3.1, and 4.1 with a smaller one after 5.5 and barely if at all used the forums during those times. Real life events like moving and in-game things like FCs disbanding was a larger part of it than content quality. I played through 1.0 solely because friends I made in-game and doing stuff with them. Dawntrail isn't the best but it's not the worst either and there's plenty of stuff to do with friends or just being social and helping FC people out. I didn't quit the game during 1.0 so it will take a lot more than a mid expansion to remove me.


Also, if you want to add me to a list, I used both free fantasia. I'm a mostly recovering fantasia-holic and I used one to play DT as my standard Hyur after being Miqo for a little bit. Then I used the 7.1 one a couple of weeks ago because I was in a Miqo mood. I don't have any problems with the new graphics change.
