TikTok has changed its algorithm to suppress the left in just the past few days.

Facebook policy was updated so that you can call gay people mentally ill but calling people mentally ill in general is not allowed, in effect allowing targeted harassment only towards a specific minority group.

What balance is there? These companies do not care about free speech, whether in 2016 or in 2024. They boost whoever has the most cultural and political power, and suppress people who don't. Their content policies sway in the zeitgeist like a dandelion.

In 2016-2022 the left was ascendant and has the most cultural power. So they banned anyone who even dared question very ordinary things like whether school closures are worth it against a pandemic. Now that the right is ascendant they all collectively switched their tunes.

Saying that X is there to "provide balance" is laughable. Throughout its history all Twitter has done is to boost the most powerful voices. Twitter/X is in effect a chameleon. Right now, Bluesky is the platform providing balance.

Huh, this is patently false. We know X broke the mold when it was acquired. If it had been part of the bandwagon it would’ve kept suppressing right leaning voices just like everyone else was doing back then.

The fact Facebook realized their moderation teams were too politically biased was a self reflection they came to recently but might fit your argument better than X, as it is shifting with the politics.

And while do not think blue sky is big enough to be relevant, it also is providing its own bias and could provide some balance, particularly if it was bigger. I just wouldn’t find it necessary to market my business there personally right now.

Well that is not entirely true, Parler released in 2018 and broke the mold way earlier and ended up being a right wing platform. Gettr also tried to do that in 2021 and was right wing. Truth Social also came out in feburary 2022 which was Trump's platform, many months before Musk acquired twitter in the october of 2022. Which those created a chain reaction with Facebook and Xitter.

The reason Gettr and Parler didn't catch on is the users realized they weren't getting their fix of being able to argue/harass their opponents on the left like what Xitter provided. And Truth Social is Trump's so that is why it has it's userbase of right wing.

One of the common trends, pitfalls really, with right wing only social media platforms is they tend to devolve into cesspools. That the creators of those platforms claim about being unbiased and promoting free speech, but it devolves into frankly some of the worst stuff you can read or watch, and that is what is happening with Xitter in real time.

Like just as one example, BMW. A german car company has decided it is going to stop using the Xitter account they have for marketing and updates and only for customer support. But they will do marketing and updates still for Instagram and Facebook.

Why did that happen? Well very likely because of Elon Musk's stunt less than 48 hours after inauguration day that germans are not fond of. But rather than go over what he did, I want to illustrate that aspect with Elon and BMW. Because Elon has a long history with straining the relationship with companies that want to use Xitter for advertising, and that in turn Xitter has been losing money at an alarming rate in the 2 years since Elon obtained it. In fact there is clips online about how Elon Musk doesn't believe he needs advertising money for his platform.

An average user is one thing, but companies not wanting to do business on certain social media platforms? That is another matter and thing to consider when one chooses to distance itself from a platform.

I don't think Gettr, Parler and Truth Social are relevant platforms, same as blue sky, I wouldn't market my business on them either if it makes you feel better. X just has a giant userbase, so it makes sense to market there, as well as facebook/instagram.

Well it's not so much about needing to feel better as it is pointing out that the right leaning voices had their own social media platforms, some which failed terribly, and that Xitter is on a downward trend for companies trying to reach people. It wouldn't be either/or largely, but the main suggestion would be that FFXIV might want to consider going on bluesky as the userbase is rapidly growing at the moment like from 3.5 million in 2024 to about 27 million as of january 2025.

You are conveniently neglecting the fact that Jack Dorsey himself has also shifted to the right in the past few years. These people are all part of the bandwagon.
