Many years ago I would've absolutely said that no, you shouldn't be able to wear Paladin plate armor on your caster, that look is tied to it's defensive value and you are about as sturdy as wet tissue paper. That has slowly shifted to "you at least shouldn't be able to wear job specific armor, since it's aesthetic is directly tied to that one job.", because it obviously wasn't a feasible position to hold anymore.

But XIV already has about the same visual cohesion as games like Tera and BDO, so I really don't care anymore.
Exactly, at this point it doesn't matter anymore. And believe it or not I would be happy if the game was visually cohesive. I do struggle to get into it sometimes because of the dumb stuff people are wearing all the time. So its not like I don't get it. What I hate though, is that having ruined the games cohesion already, we still have limitations as an extra middle finger to the players. At this point just let us be happy with whatever because it's obvious we're not going back.

So regardless, your statement has already been defeated by the games allowances on gear already. You will be equally confused if someone shows up wearing heavy plated armor mail from PVP as a white mage as you would be with any regular tank piece.

Given this reality, there is no reason to keep restricting the remaining armor, as it makes no sense to allow healers to wear plate mail while not allowing healers to wear plate mail. We have reached the contradictory nature of the current state of the game.
    Agreed.

One of my friends plays White Mage as their main job. Their usual 'outfit' of choice is the fierce tyrant's attire

So, as you say, the statement made by the person you quoted has already been defeated.

And in terms of their comment "So again, when someone wears a pig costume or a bikini, you don't think "he/she is wearing that 'armor', so it is class/role X" - no, I think they look stupid and have no idea what class/role they're playing because they look ridiculous and I therefore really don't care what class/role they're playing.

I know that there are already cases where armor doesn't fit the classes who are wearing it. But that doesn't mean I'm in favor of them continuing it with more armor in the future.

Not really a big thing, but my 2 cents:

The only glams that should be restricted should be the specific class armors; the early end-game-freebee armor at each expansion.

    That's... it.
YoshiP's quote of "it would feel awkward say if a Black Mage jumped into an instanced dungeon with full plate armor" when Papalymo literally had plate arms is...a joke..right? Even their own NPCs don't adhere to this rule.

Ironically enough though, unrestricted glamour would actually help the job image in many cases… a DNC shouldn’t have to wear cowboy gear just because they’re part of Aiming, when there’s some great Scouting pieces that would fit their aesthetic better. A PCT should be able to look different than a BLM. RPR doesn’t want to look like a DRG most of the time. The AF gear is the only gear that really plays up to the job image, the rest of it just groups jobs together in ways that might make sense for their play style but definitely not their aesthetic.

Ultimately I’d like to see it all unrestricted. My WoL has all classes maxed, all this gear is already in her closet, so to speak. But failing that, I’m more than happy to accept keeping AF gear job locked, or even go with the old “Disciples of War/Disciples of Magic” split they’ve done in the past. Even though they have also made older gear “All Classes” in the past, and let’s face it, some of these role restrictions are totally arbitrary and have nothing to do with the job/role image at all.

Yeah I would have no idea what job you are just by looking at that. Only with your weapon out and/or battle stance would I be able to. And I say that as even with the weapon and stance, I remember one time seeing a male hyur dark knight in a very samurai-looking glam in Castrum Meridianum, honestly couldn't tell they were a dark knight until the particle effects or when I looked to the left to see the jobs of the party composition.

Honestly that is a very versatile piece. I use it for a WHM glam too, and theres plenty of heavy armor that doesn't look out of place in caster classes.
