This decision was primarily made in favor of a VIIR writer that's been facing genuine harassment for three years because of online ship wars. But I won't lie, people unknowingly grouping themselves with these kinds of people because they're worried their thinly veiled "criticism" against DT/Wuk VA could be interpreted as harassment is amusing, almost as if they're self-aware and had malicious intent all along. The consequences seem a bit extreme, but unless you're going to the same lengths as these people, there's no reason to be this upset. Nobody is going to be fined or jailed for saying DT or Sena Bryer sucks, and it's good to look into things past bait articles and titles once in a while.

While the harassment segment of the new updated policy seems reasonable enough (just stop harassing people, its not hard), I'm more concerned about the second part.

The first thing under Undue Demand: Unreasonable changes or exchange of product or request for monetary compensation

Anything they deem as too much work/effort they could say is an unreasonable change (like hrothgar/viera hats)

And the 'request for monetary compensation' part I imagine is to stop people asking for time refunds due to the frequent 'DDoS' attacks/server issues.

I wonder if this could also effect the character graphical upgrade "fixes".
Considering how SE has from the very beginning been clear that the update would change the appearance of the player characters more or less.
Maybe SE are tired of all the complaints so now they can put the foot down and say that it's done and it would be unreasonable to put more time and money into "fixing" something that's done.

Yeah it do feel like Lucasfilm all over again, don't it?

Instead of mandatory service, maybe governments around the world should introduce mandatory customer support duty, or in the service industry. A few weeks of actually dealing with other people should hammer the empathy right into quite a few thick skulls.

Man, if there's something horrible human beings hate, it's facing consequences for being horrible human beings. Hell, my local McDonalds put up signs recently saying that the servers have a right to turn away customers if they get too nasty. Ask a guy if it happened that often. Said that it happens at least twice a day. TWICE A DAY. I live in a Midwest city that is just big enough to not be called in a town, in an area where the stereotype of people from there is that they're nice! TWICE. A. DAY. That is two times too many for a daily amount.

I partially blame the internet. As much as I love it, it's given rise to generations that think they can say and do anything they want without fear of being literally or figuratively punched in the face. Of course, there are older generations that act the same way. I guess they're just insane asshats. It's not just SquareEnix. Companies are going to do more to protect their employees because they're finally understanding that appeasing asshats just encourages their behavior, and it's actually costing them money in the long run, having to replace employees that quit from burnout and stress.

And I'm not talking about saying "This game is bad." I'm talking about telling employees that you're going to hurt, murder, and other things I can't mention without breaking the ToS of the forums to both the employee, and their loved ones. You can scream, cry, and whine and throw tantrums about "yer freedums" all you want. The moment you make an employee fear for their health and/or life, you've crossed a line.

Don't like that companies that employ these people are finally tired of your shite? You only brought it on yourselves. All you had to do is not be an asshat.

    It really wasn't that hard.

I've run many online communities over the years. They have all had your basic rules and people have been warned or removed/banned for breaking them. There has never been an issue with having a basic rule like "respect and courtesy". The only people who could have a problem with this are people that never learned manners or don't understand what manners are.

It's not usually about what you say, but how you say it.

Saying there should be no rules "because someone might be innocent" is like saying we should have no laws because someone might be wrongfully imprisoned. There are usually appeal processes if it's a big enough deal (obviously it's not a big deal online because alts and VPNs exist).
