Dawntrail character graphics update - opinions, requests and discussion megathread

Logged back in today to take my alts through the Starlight event, and I just feel so dejected. Over the years I've taken thousands of pictures, I loved meeting up with friends at the holidays to take pictures of our characters and I loved looking back at those memories.

How does a game that put so much into a photo mode, mess up this badly? You had the forethought to think that people might like their characters enough to want to take pictures of them, but then not enough for thought to preserve those characters, even though we were promised they would.

The only reason I go into Gpose since DT is to get pictures of how off things look. I WANT to take pictures and enjoy the seasonal events, I want to get excited about things, but then I look at my characters and immediately get taken out of the moment because of how uncanny they look. What's the point of pictures when my characters, and my friends characters don't look like themselves?

I wanted to be excited for the savage raids and for chaotic, but between the DT graphics update messing up not just characters, but lighting to the point of making people sick, I realized, what was the point?

I want the mounts and glamours from the content, but I can't enjoy the glams and cosmetics because I don't have my characters anymore, so even if the content is fun and engaging again, finally, why would I want to even try it, since I don't know if I'll ever be able to enjoy my characters again. FFXIV can be a fun game without the glam and glitz but what made it a special experience for me was taking the more engaging game aspects and melding them together with the fluff of getting to make a character and feel like I'm going on a journey with them.

It hurts that they added improvements to the glamour system like double-dyeing and facewear right as they altered all the characters so I never got to make use of them.

Plus they've now made that weird decision to change how the gpose camera moves without including a toggle back to the old controls, so even if I do try to take a picture, I'm left utterly frustrated and probably haven't managed to get the shot I was after.

I submitted a bug report about Aura male's limbal ring and iris. I wish to contribute further information on limbal ring ,but the thread was moved to "Accepted Bugs". I can't post more in that thread.

Here, I'm glad to see the Aura's limbal ring glowing again and the color was adjusted. But if you choose light colors, the limbal ring will become thicker. If you picked dark color it didn't have this problem.

Still here, still unhappy with both my main Au Ra Raen female face 2, and my Elezen Duskwight male face 2.
So little changed in 7.1 for either. I don't even know if I should hope for 7.2 at this point.

Duskwight's skin is somehow now more shiny than it was before. He can stand directly in the rain and I don't see a difference from when he's not in the rain now. :/

Still unhappy with my Midlander. I have face 1. I was looking for a way to describe what is so unsettling about his eyes and you described it just right, drugged out pupils. I just can't get used to his face. It's not him anymore.

And same, my house and the hope they'll fix this mess is the only thing keeping me subbed atm. Writing back up to standards, fix the lighting, fix our faces, fix Thancred's face, add more faces, add more cosmetics, give Viera and Hrothgar access to the same hairstyles and hats, finish lifting dated genderlocks, add more rewards for staying subbed, make ownership of houses transferable between characters on the same world of the same account (with 90 days in between if need be) and make open world less dead. All of that needs to happen or legacy or not, house or not, I'll be out, no matter how much it hurts to leave.

I'm still here and after 197 days since DT came out I'm still upset about what the graphics update did to female Au Ra Face 1 (and by extension all Au Ra faces). Nothing is really happening at the moment so I can't add anything new, but I've been thinking about how unnecessary the graphics update was on a weekly basis.
I'm still subbed because I loved FF14 pre-DT and can't replace it with something else.

It was moved to “working as intended” btw…

Seeing how it was moved to "working as intended" my only conclusion is that it's to simulate a glowing effect making it look thicker than what it really is.
Where if you have a dark color it doesn't glow and therefor isn't as thick.

If I remember correctly, the things they said they’d need more time for (aka, couldn’t have done in time for 7.1) regarding character feedback influenced changes were scheduled to be done in time for 7.2, but there hasn’t been any further details since.
