So about the Hanu in Kozama'uka...

EDIT: Shortened to not spoil too much for people who have not done the allied society quest yet.

Why does this largest visible Hanu settlement, visible east just past the zone boundary, not only have no role in the zone's quests or lore, but we can't even go there?

Because it's not a Hanu settlement and instead part of the Pelupelu society quests and the travel agency? As I recall from trying to point it out to a friend and them not seeing it, that whole area is "constructed" only once you get far enough in that quest line.

Perhaps it was a hurricane that didn't directly pass through that specific area, but rather the place that got wrecked.

I'm not sure if those structures were even there originally. A lot of them got placed there with the release of the beast tribe. There was the structures we can access in the water, but not quite as extensive as after the patch.

there was not really anything there originally. some trees, some animals and the way to the landing stage (which is now kinda hidden behind the whole thing) led through some kind of gate. one of those they have in japan too. two pillars and one bar... or something similar to this.

they replaced the whole place except the long landing stage. now you already see the outlines for the buildings if you dont have the quest and there are no npcs around

It wasn't always there? My mistake then, and thank you for correcting that for me. Well, that does explain the "How did that not suffer the storm" angle.

It still doesn't really explain though why a people whose entire culture revolves around reeds, would build such a large settlement over a river that flows too fast for reeds to grow in it? Or.. why that sidequest would result in the spontaneous building of a town that is larger than all their other settlements combined? I mean, that place could rightfully be the capital of this zone now, by size.

P.S. If they have time and resources to build all that, someone should go fix the stairs to the southern part of the zone already! xD

Because it's… not a Hanu settlement? I can't check right now, but as I recall, it's not Hanu architecture. It's the same architecture as the Pelupelu travel agency, which is the sort of thing you'd expect to expand as it becomes more successful and popular.

It is not the architecture of the Pelu Pelu either though. Which possibly makes this even more of an unexplained oddity rather than less of one. All we can say for sure is that the most populous group around the Travel Agency is the Hanu, and the design does have traits of the Hanu architecture particularly in the use of dyed coiled rope, don't you think?

I didn't say Pelupelu. I said Pelupelu travel agency.

Occam's Razor. The area shows up during the travel agency quest line. It looks like the travel agency. It's part of the travel agency.

That would make me grin a little at the irony that the devs wouldn't touch on sensitive issues like colonialism in an expansion with otherwise strong parallels to Central America, but have no problem with pretty much refocusing the zone to suit a tourism industry with its own new resort capital larger than all native settlements combined, all funded and lead by external private investors.

It helps that the construction efforts were led by Wuk Evu, a carpenter from Tuliyollal who moved to Kozama'uka after falling in love with its culture. In all likelihood, those huts are housing for tourists looking for overnight or multi-day excursions in Kozama'uka.
