I loved Corsair Stronghold in TERA, I think something like that could be fun in FFXIV.

I don’t think a 1v1 gamemode would be any better than 1v1v1. I think the whole “give up” mindset when one team is stronger would be more prominent because there’s no second team to help even the odds against the stronger team. But for the sake of gameplay variety I like the idea: especially a siege mode.

Without a ranking system, it will just be the duty finder RNG we have now, and it will feel like that as well.

It would be played by the very same people playing Frontline now, if it's part of a roulette with XP reward. And that same demographic can't be bothered to become even rudimentary competent at the already existing game modes. If it isn't part of a roulette, it will likely not be played at all beyond the initial rush.

Those two combine, make it difficult to rally and get morale back up to continue the fight.
It's only dependent on "luck" so much, because the majority of the Frontline population only has "go to nearest objective on the map" as modus operandus. Doesn't matter if there is an opportunity to flank or ambush, or a commander says something. In my 700 Frontline matches, I have seen exactly 2 advanced plays happen.

Large scale PvP won't be good unless it has enough objectives to force teams to actually split up to complete them. FL is plagued by people just deathballing and the increased defense modifiers just make small scale skirmishes horrible as they just take forever.

The Rival Wings map is easily my favourite large-scale PvP map. The objectives are fun and engaging, and you're only facing one team instead of two. There's quite a bit of strategy on how you deploy and defend the mechs. I honestly wish they would change their focus to fixing the disabled Rival Wings map and then add more instead of reworking Frontlines.

My guess is SE is lowkey irritated that RW has been kept alive by Discord.

There is a pvp mode I remember fondly from swotor... was it also called Frontlines? First round one team is the assault team and needs to progress as far as possible on the path toward the endline/goal, breaching doors, clearing objectives halfway. Lots of cliffs to be punted off, that was also fun. And when the round ends, both teams swap, attacker becomes defender, defender becomes attacker, and the winner after both rounds is the team that went the furthest or won the objective.

Huttball was certainly creative as well.
