That we pay them to run this game, that they then take that money and Square Enix decides what to fund.

And they have decided to use that money on a Mobile game.

That's just it... SE isn't spending money on this. They are loaning the FFXIV IP to Tencent....Which means Tencent is paying Square Enix to use the IP... Which means the game is making SE money to be spent on things... Like... Potentially paying the dev that can then be put to work fixing the Viera/Hroth hat "issue" that Viera players etc agreed to when they VOTED to get them in the state granted - as in the poll to vote it was mentioned they would have those restrictions [from before even being offered to be added to the game] over the options like the half-race options for more creation options where they COULD implement things.
