They just fixed this I thought. I believe you can "donate" materia-ed items to the hamlet defense.

While another way to cash in on materia, do you find this an interesting and rewarding way to use materia?
I had hoped, even if only in 2.0, that they could find another way to add materia back into the crafting process and ensure its use and disappearance from the system.
Materia is definately used for items, but a glance at the market will show a huge amount of single melts and a rare multi-meld piece. WHat i see as an observasion is people are less willing to chance the total loss of what equals 2 crafted gear items with no return.
I'd like to see a more stable return on materia use but via a consumable so the gain is much more likely, but its loss is also garunteed. And as i said above, once an item is melded, it will be bought and sold add infinity. Thus sometimes trumping the newly crafted items, and lowering the need for more due to someone having owner ship of the melded item.
I find this much more interesting then handing it to an NPC for some points and potentially, much more beneficial to myself, fellow players and the health of the game as a whole.
Thank you

Hi Viritess,
A good proposition.![]()
I agree that the market is flooded with too many Low Level Materia (and even too many Tier IIIs and some IVs).
It would certainly invigorate the Alchemist / Potions Economy (making them more desirable, especially with adding Materia to augment them), and get rid of lower level Materia (which, if people see them selling, would incentivize people to try and Materia more gear, which means buying / making more Gear to Materia-ize, buying more Materials from Crafters, etc.).
Another option some have brought up is allowing a way to combine / "synthesize" Lower Tier Materia for a *chance* at Higher Tier Materia (sort of like a Horadric's Cube).
Say someone tries to synthesize 4 x Tier I STR Materias for a chance at generating a higher level Materia (Tier II, III or IV), etc. That might be another way to move Materia through the economy.
