Just remaster XI with XIVs Engine please

It will cut down on costs, if you want to make it even better than go for it. That game deserves a remaster like no other.

To many of us XIV was going to be a modernized continuation of that game, of course, that is not what happened, but there is a place and a demand for an MMO like XI.

There are few games in the industry that are held so fondly by people who played them 20 years ago.

Alas, it will never happen, I mean, it's why FFXIV was developed originally, it was meant to be FFXI's spiritual continuation and replacement (an early idea for FFXIV was that FFXI players were meant to be able to move their existing FFXI characters into FFXIV - Tanaka realized that was going to be unworkable though and so that idea was abandoned quickly).

The closest players got to a remade FFXI was the planned mobile phone version that was scrapped long ago. Undoutably this is why we've got the FFXI raid here in FFXIV in the first place, it's FFXI's last hurrah and ensures something of the game will live on even after the FFXI servers are finally shutdown, whenever that will be (probably not for a long time yet, but it is inevitable).

The big truth. Probably the real reason why they added more weeks to the patch cycle in the first place. You can create usable spaghetti in 2 years, but untangling that spaghetti will be a near endless endeavor + having to work on new content. That is if the new content will be compatible with existing code and if not well... back to tearing it down and pray what you just tore down didn't have any dependencies because if it does... time to rewrite the dependencies too. But what if the dependencies had dependencies of the dependencies? It goes on forever.

It really should happen. At least any elements that can be upgraded easily should be.

They could probably upgrade the texture system and use the new textures instead that they made for this game's alliance raid for example.

I get the feeling if they did do it, it still wouldn't be the same game and then you'd have people saying they ruined the memories of the game.

Always, but if they never did something anytime someone complained then nothing would get done. So they should barrel ahead. There is no other cheaper option than to remake the game using XIV engine and assets. and all mainline FFs are getting redone it seems like. Eventually we'll get there.

I would love if they used the XVI engine of course, NOW THAT, would be something else.

Curiously, It seems XI is the lowest numbered FF without one. Maybe a coincidence with new alliance raids?

I don't think you'd understand how expensive it would be to do that. Yes they engine is here, they'd have to remake every asset not already remade for XIV. Every quest would have to be redone.

Also, if you want it to be XI, the battle system would have to be remade, because its not XIV's.


The menu driven system would have to be created from the ground up. "less expensive" and "cheaper" mean nothing when its 10s of millions in work to do.

It does mean something, less expensive means less expensive. And you are correct, they'd have a lot of work to do, since they've made plenty of remasters of their mainline FFs I can assume they are familiar with the processes.
