Viera hat compatibility is tied to hair styles

i think like this: every time they release a new gear, they are decreasing their potential gains because not everyone can use the whole thing. It's like a constant half-done job. An eternal bottleneck. Even worse, if you release a really cute hat/helm that could be used by a Viera, you could earn some bucks by selling another fantasia.


I really don't know why they are not doing it.


7.0 is another wasted potential....a graphics update and engine upgrades without fixing stuff they left behind years ago. Worse, they caused even more (minor) issues to be fixed later. What the F* is going on?

I was just saying this earlier. Not that I'm not annoyed by the hairstyle situation in that thread. I wholeheartedly think they have handled that whole situation terribly. But they got a response. In a matter of DAYS.

How long have we been screaming into the void for ANY type of substantial update regarding hats for viera and hrothgar with zero response on the official forums? It's been YEARS. There are countless threads, mega threads and discourse and the most we get is some vague "it's coming guys" from Yoshi p in a random impromptu response when he was asked about it while visiting one of the servers in-game.

Still waiting.

It's wild, like I agree and understand people's upset about the hairstyle.

But the contest literally says they don't need to make it exactly like the winning entry.

We're locked out of most hat gear including ones we have already paid for in the cash shop pre ShB.

It's been years.

There's been a graphics update.

They're un-genderlocking multiple gear sets which require 3d edits and meta data what-not.

So I was initially a female Miqo'te. Then when female Viera were announced I was ecstatic. Once female Viera were introduced to the game, I switched and played as her for an entire year. Ultimately though I went back to Miqo'te even though I loved my Viera.

There were several reasons I ended up switching back to female Miqo'te.

1. Couldn't wear Majority of Hats.
2. Limited Hairstyles - couldn't use the same as everyone else (including Mog Station ones)
3. Body Type - wasn't unique to them. Seemed like it was just using female Elezen body type with a Viera head on top.
4. Viera hands and feet not being true to the FFXII aesthetic.
5. Hempen Clothes - wasn't unique to them. Was using Midlander female Hyur hempen clothes, even though every other race got something unique to them.


At least the starting outfit we got was Fran's outfit, so I was excited about that. Then immediately disappointed that we didn't get Fran's hairstyle. (We got something close but not the same, plus there is a Fran npc in the game so the model for her hair already exists in the game.)

It was a combination of these things that felt as though the race was hastily put together with not much care and professionalism that led me to switch back to female Miqo'te.

Aesthetic in my character is very important to me when I play, and I felt like I just kept being repeatedly disappointed in what female Viera could have been.

Takeo Suzuki said they used a mashup of hyur and miqo'te.

Had this been a standalone game like Final Fantasy XII, we would’ve built one-off skeletal structures to have unique character models, but with XIV we referenced skeletal structures of the Hyur and Miqo’te and built off those to create the Viera, so that was one of the challenging aspects.

After female Viera came Hrothgar males, then Viera males, then Hrothgar females. Each of these stopped having unique Hempen Clothes set. Are we saying these were all built from a mashup of other races?

But Hrothgar still have unique looking character models, so there doesn't seem to be a pattern here.

Hrothgar definitely used roes as a base, and I wouldn't be surprised if the males also used chunks of some non-playable bipeds like amalj'aa for their hunch. I have no idea why they opted to go this route beyond it presumably being faster and easier.

All female characters, with the exception of Lalafell for obvious reasons, literally just use the female midlander model for their body and achieve different sizes through skeleton scaling.
The same applies to male hrothgar, they just use the male roegadyn model for their body with different scaling, textures and distinctly different animations to make them look unique.
