Not that it’s a defence of the design (if anything it makes it worse) but does anyone even see their characters pants anymore
Between every set of boots being knee high and almost all coats actually being pseudo robes (or actual robes for the casters) you never even see pants anyway
As a healer main in this game for nigh on 14 years all I can say is that I’m tired. My role has been eroded of complexity and expression for 3 expansions. I’ve watched the tanks do my role for me for 2 expansions and my feedback and critiques continue to fall on deaf ears.
I have no idea who modern healers are designed for but I know now it’s not me. This is the first expansion I’m truly considering dropping the healer role and not returning, so if that was the goal- congratulations I guess
6 is mostly medieval fantasy with some steampunk elements in certain areas. Or a blend of the two.And on medieval side we'd have:
1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 9, 11, 12( yes, 12), 16. If we're counting Ivalice, Tactics.
All of then have knights running around on full armor, classic kingdom and castles.
As I said, it's not a rule.
Back to XIV, is very understandable where they're coming from, as the non casual gear mesh better with the general aesthetic of locations/NPCs.

Chalk me up as another one bored with this trend. Maybe they can go back to it in a while, but I really want more battle variation in the seldom pieces of new attire in the game, rather than more jammies.
While I'm all for having both options of casual and fantasy gear, that image really highlights the levels we've reached. You can point at the differences like Salon Server or Southern Sea. But without a label, I doubt most players could recognize majority of those. If you slap another colour and can't tell them apart anymore, why do we need to have near-copies of the same thing.
I prefer high-fantasy attire for fantasy RPGs, and really dislike modern outfits like track suits and baseball caps. It's so jarring. It's regrettable so many seem to love them.
My cut-off for fashion in these games would be maybe Victorian era.
And one of my favorite games in the series! : D
I think these images are from the Brave Exvius, but I’d love to see some stuff in this kind of style…
On a side note, does anyone know the name of this artist so I could see more of their work? Google isn’t helping me!
