Wik Lamat had to be absent from a lot of the marketing because they hadn't revealed female Hrothgar yet. It's highly unlikely they were deliberately trying to mislead the audience.
Unless their market testing months before the launch already showed them that this character would not be able to build up enough pull with their target audience.

For the record I haven't even played DT and have no skin in this game, WL is honestly small potatoes in my mind compared to the grander problems the game has but browsing through the thread and seeing this comment made me do a double-take.
The first half is PR speak for "we acknowledge she comes off as shallow" which is a start, but the second part is incredibly telling and for the first time pointedly highlights the pivotal mistake they've kept making since Endwalker, only this time to disastrous effect: trying to force an impression of a character or storyline on the player instead of telling the story and letting players judge for themselves.
It shouldn't be "we're hoping we can show more of what makes Wuk Lumat so great", but "we're hoping we can show what we think makes Wuk Lumat a great character." It's not up to them to decide how players receive her; they can take feedback and revise the character to be more appealing if it's in their interest to do so, but objectively forcing the notion she is without taking in player perception and autonomy is not only ignorant and a little arrogant, but it's only going to raise hackles and foster even more ill will.
I think this is what I find so frustrating about the current climate of diversity awareness in video games. Diversity is incredibly important, and we absolutely need more representation and opportunities for minorities, but making an obnoxiously over-exposed token character with a "love me" sign on their back is not the way to do it. If anything it's disrespectful, given that it others them from other characters that get treated with the nuance and humanity that makes them genuinely endearing and does far more harm than good in engendering acceptance in the gaming community.

She's there. She's in a cutscene with Koana and she's in the dungeon with us as the tank. You can see her fighting the boss with us and walking in it.
I mistyped there, I meant I never heard her VA. I remember seeing her swinging her axe for 1.5s. I just didn't expect much of a reaction based on that.
Not to be rude but if you really expected the first patch to not include her at all, then your expectations were always totally and utterly ridiculous. And I say that as someone who literally made a thread ahout not including her in the patches. The thing is I acknowledged that was unlikely and that editing her down would suffice, which is what the trailer shows. She was in the original marketing, ìdk what the user who quoted me is talking about. A trailer from when she was a surprise? Idc

Honestly I'm more upset that Galool Ja is going to be a big focus. Ugh.
I mean they told us Krile had a massive character arc and she would be super mega important. Cut forward and every time she asked about anything she was told “not now” and the plot item she got from the parents can’t even be used without the king of Alexandria( best deux ex machina moment so lucky that the dead beat son had a kid and he becomes king after his dad is dead) and the only “character” development was the talk with mom and dad only for wuk to come in and ruin it. Or you know how we would search and try finding the golden city only for it too be found already and we just retracing the steps off some people .
I wouldn’t call an expansion like dawntrail story anymore. It’s there and nothing more. Wuk alone takes away a decent chunk of suspension of disbelief, like pulls random power ups out of narnia and character completely turn backwards for wuk (using the link pearl too ask wuk for you) or having no plan or ideal clash or fail and being in almost all other character moments and the only time we got away we try getting back a necklace that was from wuk. It feels like tural is just a massive Wulf Lamat anomaly that Alexander some how fukked up when travelling back in time and changing some moments.

Y'know what sucks about Tural? The fact that all the good stuff already happened. The original Dawn Servant and his merry band of misfits already went and united the country and made peace (in a laughably easy way for a lot of them) so any chance of interesting conflict based on the location is gone. The only people who don't like us are the Giants and they're a small faction who are already starting to change their minds.I wouldn’t call an expansion like dawntrail story anymore. We coulda had Final Fantasy XI Aht Urhgan 2, man. Imagine Tuliyollal being under siege from opposing factions who wanted to see the city state fail? Besieged but in modern hardware! Or, y'know, just SOMETHING different. Sadly not, Wuk and her Father have made all sources of interesting conflict basically disappear and now we have to coddle the infantile Alexandrians instead.
