I would be OK with allowing players to completely skip MSQ battle content altogether, given that there was a requirement to have completed that content on "normal" difficulty prior to being able to queue into raids (normal/savage/alliance) and EX trials. I'm 100% against it otherwise. If you're not capable of completing the MSQ content on its "normal" difficulty, then you WILL be dead weight in the other content, and that's simply unfair to everyone else. (Note: This isn't a gatekeeping statement, it's simply a statement of: If you don't want to get your skill level to an appropriate level for the content, then you shouldn't be allowed to do the content.)

Rubbish. I am a noob in FF14 but played quite a few years of wow. I am aware of not standing in doggie doodoo. Some of this single player only MSQ's are pretty hard. I am over 50 doing the main story so have 110 gearish.

I fail almost without fail nearly every single solo scenario the first time. I end up taking the easy route. When i am faced with taking down 6,8,10 or even more as a solo it gets hard. There are only so many dots i can spread before i have to face wha tis hitting me.

I have no idea what this game wants to be. %90 so far has been watching TV and reading whole books while adjusting the auto text speed. The other %10 has been pretty hard crap for me for the gear they give you and how many enemies you are facing.

I had no idea that the overwhelming majority of my time so far is spent reading. Thsi , to me, is not playing a game, not matter how interesting the story may be.

Great its not wow. I left that game behind for good when i came here. But i might as well start reading books at this rate.

If you have an issue with all solo duties during the first run, it feels like you have troubles "reading" the situation. I don't know how far you are in the MSQ, but there is often a bit of a prioritizing you can do, e.g. if there's a healer, take out the healer first. If enemies are overwhelming you, check if you can block them from spawning (e.g. attacking a void gate in a BLM quest that burps out enemies) or - depending on your job - stall them with "sleep", "foot graze" or whatever that third one was, Arm's Length to slow their attacks etc. Sometimes attacking enemies is also not your goal, so have an eye on your quest text. I failed the lvl 30 Rogue class quest the first time around because I wasn't aware I should leave the fighting to the NPCs (unless it's unavoidable) and instead disarm bombs standing around. In Endwalker are two solo duties where avoiding fights while sneaking around and doing stuff to complete your mission is the way to go as well.
Now, some early game job quests tend to have absurdly brutal solo duties/fights but that's because the devs failed to readjust most of them to changes in the job, so they expect you to do things you could do easily two expansions ago but are a struggle now. And this is certainly not okay and deserves to be criticized. But this also means they are not really representative for solo duties you might find in the MSQ because they are designed to be able to complete with every job, their balancing is different. I did many of the job quests on "easy" or "very easy" the first time around, if the devs don't bother adjusting, I don't bother with stressing out about them either.

Gear is a very important part and yes, the MSQ doesn't always provide you with everything, but that doesn't mean you are cut off from getting good gear. Especially early in the game you should check vendors (or the market board if you have access to it) or equip dungeon loot whenever you find some. MSQ is almost never giving you accessories through quests, but you can get loot from dungeons, side quests, your job quests, and once you hit level 50 you can also get very good gear for Allagan Tomestones of Poetics that carries you for five levels of each expansion. I don't know how it is with WOW, but I have a hard time believing keeping your gear up to date is not a thing there. That's basic 1x1 for literally every game with a gear system out there...

However, I also see in your profile you are a level 53 archer. If you have shitty gear at this point and no job crystal at that, you haven't been playing any class/job quests and I'd highly recommend doing so, because you get decent main gear during the Lvl 45 and 50 quests, not to mention a ton of skills from unlocking the follow-up job Bard. If you go to your Archer teacher and there are no quests, then continue the MSQ, because you need to finish the lvl 20 MSQ "Sylph Management" to unlock job quests.

There are plenty good reasons to play solo duties on "very easy", and there is no shame in doing so. As written on page 1 I'm also in favour of adding a very easy mode to other solo content because of this. Nevertheless it seems like you are making things extra hard for yourself by not paying attention to what you are doing, neither inside nor outside a solo duty, as harsh as it might sound. It is not the solo duty's fault if you don't keep an eye on your gear as you have to do in very much every game and ignore important quests the game reminds you of with a big banner every five levels. So as much as I hate the "git gud" mentality, this is not about being "git gud" but getting accustomed to core gameplay features and yes, this is a very basic baseline that should be not too much to ask for...
