I'd be quite careful of making these sorts of posts, towards or for a specific group of people. I'm not a mentor myself, but even I know when there is a time and place for certain grievances to be discussed.
I can think of several times both mentors and not-mentors acted poorly and 'hurt' people. The furthest this topic should be going is reserved to Tickets for the staff to handle if the cases are pertinent. You've clearly had a run-in with a poor representative, and I do empathize, but this is bordering on the verge of hate-crime. Be it sprout or mentor, everyone should handle their grievances privately or with the proper people and not fan the dirty laundry to nurse misery.

Just like any other group of people I have run into both good and bad mentors.

Most of the time in dungeons they are silent. Even after multiple wipes these days. I blame the clarification of the social rules for that. It is far too easy for any advice to be taken as an attack and reportable. It does bother me that when I specifically ask for a fast refresher on the mechanics of a fight I might not have done for years the mentor stays silent. Then again maybe the mentor also hadn't done it in years.

NN is where I have run into most of my issues with mentors. Far too often I see sprout questions ignore so the mentors can continue whatever non game topic they were discussing or worse just flat giving out wrong information (yes I do chime in with the correct info). There are some very good mentors in NN but there are also some really awful ones who will outright admit they are mentors for the global chat that is NN.

I used to aspire to be a mentor. I am a teacher by nature (I taught school for 29 years). I not longer want the crown. I can help people without a crown just fine and have been doing so for years. I don't want the baggage that goes with the crown.

This is another use of the crown that I've once utilized: weed out the unwanted actors preemptively. I don't need to acknowledge these players. They don't exist to me. And it's working nicely in my experience 'cause people would just outed themselves voluntarily.

Good at playing the game is a plus for sure, but 'smart people' aren't always good at teaching another (nightmare stories about ruthless teachers back at school, anybody?). Based on the in-game description of the system, it strikes to me that they just want mentor players that are pleasant to be around with to gently guide the sprouts, just like a proper teacher would.

Doesn't this apply to literally all those TfDF stories? lol

    Greyhawk is correct, actually.

While inside the rift between worlds, players must perform an Active Time Maneuver to escape their fetters. To succeed, the players have 15 seconds to repeatedly click the button (or press any other button except from chat) and keep their Will of Defiance meter from dropping to 0. Note that the meter becomes easier to replenish when it is lower. So long as there's anything in the meter when the timer reaches zero, you succeed. If any player fails the event, the entire party wipes. If any players are dead when this phase starts, they will still participate and must successfully complete the Active Time Maneuver.
Additionally, that bar pretty much always stays low so you can just mash spacebar.

Sure. But what would this achieve exactly? Would it magically make sure the mentors care about helping people? Would it ensure that the mentors can tell you when and how you unlock your chocobo or ifrit (hard)?

    ... Actual pve knowledge? kek

Remove the mount as well. There should be absolutely nothing you gain from being a mentor besides the joy of being one. The second it had a mount attached to it, the wrong kind of people lined up for the job.

I always stay if I get an extreme duty since I prefer those over MSQ roulettes where I'm forced to basically afk the cutscenes and nobody even needs any input or advice, or expert dungeons where everyone has multiple level 100s but for some reason I'm dragged into it regardless rather than anything else...
