I mean, I don't like those, either. I think Azys Lla might be the most hideous zone in the entire game. The Garlean tech, Anyder and Omega I'm indifferent to, at least they're somewhat similar looking. Solution 9 is a completely different flavor of futuristic, though. It bothers me the same way the NieR raids do - it doesn't fit in.

I have the diametrically opposed taste. I'm a sucker for SF interacting with fantasy worlds. But that's tastes right?
I just find it an odd thing to say, since FF has always been about mixing literally everything possible genre into one, including musically...

A lot of us have no prior experience with the FF franchise. We came here and judged the game for itself, not how it compared to other FF games.

If SE has decided this game needs to be more like the other FF games, it's their right to make those changes since it's their IP. But any change to a product comes with the risk of losing customers not because they see the product as bad but because it has become too different from what fits into their comfort zone.

That's the thing - I've never played any other FF game. Any nostalgia FF fans might have is a no-sell for me. At the best of times, this game manages to stand strong on its own without leaning on "hey remember X earlier entry in the series". I'd like things to stay that way. I don't want to need to have played 15+ other games just so that I can get what the heck this one is doing.

But they could also lose customers if we stop finding SF props cropping up here and there. It works both ways.

( no i'm not going to cancel my sub because they stop using SF themes )

I actually do like when XIV tries to be its own thing and I do think it indulges way too much into fan service. I am however not talking about the references to older FFs, but about what the series does best: merging all kinds of themes and aesthetics into what I do believe is an oddly cohesive ensemble. If anything, what puts me off the vibe isn't cyberpunk theming, it's casual glams and especially silly glams and all the things that stick like a sore thumb in terms of immersion, but maybe that's just me...

I understand that anything they choose to do (or choose not to do) comes at the risk of losing players. And I don't see anything wrong with the occasional sci-fi elements in general but they need to be cautious about how they fit in with what already exists. Solution Nine and Alexandria are a drastic contrast to how it's been done within the game in the past.

Regarding glamours, not certain which ones you're referring to when you say "casual". When it comes to the silly glamours, in a way they're a MMO staple and FFXIV has not been the only one to add them. I think I've long since gotten used to treating them as "some people see life as a costume party" and sometimes I think they've got the right idea. The silliness helps to offset the doom and gloom.

I'm still trying to keep an open mind about things but for now my enthusiasm is gone and the cyberpunk aesthetic is a turn off for me. I'll see how things go in the future patches.

If I'm not interested in playing the game on a regular, then I don't need the house. I'll take my chances on getting another one if I get invested in the game again.

As for the everything in it, most of it is very easy to replace. I'm going to move the hard to replace stuff to my retainers and desynth/vendor the rest.

People get way too worked up over keeping a pixel house that they probably spend very little time in even when they're playing the game.

you dont have a clue ... the Housing community is insane. Very creative minds out there. Like they litterally spend the day in the Houses watching it make screenshots or simply redecorate. Guess what this Pixel house means something for them. Especially if its a big 50kk one. People farm grind and do stuff for a while for it and then they have to win this stupid lottery. Of course they dont wanna lose it... Sad part is before the best expansion ever dropped some months ago people who owns a house didnt unsub just because they knew they like the game and want keep the house. Its disgustingly getting a large one hell even a middle one. Many of those invested a good amount of time and work for it. If they give this pixel house up they will never come back. Remember just because it have no value for you it doesnt mean its the case for all. So the hope is that this indie company gets their stuff together and make the game more enjoyable again thats why they still sub. If nothing changes they will lose the intrest completly and leave without a comeback. The way how it worked for the past was because 14 had this system and others been sleeping. ( looking at WoW for example ) this is not the case anymore. GW2 released an insane housing system and is generally more of a casual game but thats another story.

for the Point of glam i think what he mean with casual is something like "normal clothes" like jeans jackets dresses something like that. Nothing you would put on for fighting. The game offers you silly costumes yes but in the past like ShB for example you always had some nice casual stuff which i agree not always fits into a fantasy world. The thing is i am fine if we get like jackets or dresses from like crafting recipe but its kinda weird getting cyberpunk LED jackets from main leveling dungeon. Some like it some cant stand this, its a thing of taste. In my opinion its not very fitting same as the BDSM stuff like why...
