Dawntrail character graphics update - opinions, requests and discussion megathread

Ah yes, the Chinese FFXIV version launched yesterday. It's so difficult to navigate the Chinese lodestone without knowing the language, but I'll try. My condolences to the Chinese who had to suffer the loss of their WoLs. I had hopes that for Chinese and Korean players FFXIV would make some changes to characters, but perish the thought.

P.S. I'm reading the Chinese lodestone right now; most people are upset and are talking about the same issues we've been discussing in this thread. But surely it's only the length of the eyelashes, slightly turned up or down mouth corners, and better eyebrows, right? Right?

The most common complaints:

- catgirls face 4 (plus mouths across all catgirl face types)
- femauras with Cirina's face & face 4 (mixed)
- female midlanders (it seems like all face types are involved)
- male midlanders 1, 6 and with Oboro's face
- female lalafels (people complain about the loss of gem eyes and a wide geniune smile)
- male au ra faces 1-3
- female highlanders
- bunny girls (noses, eyes and eyelashes)

Who would have thought that FFXIV team step on the same rakes yet again?

P.S.S. I'm kind of torn if I'm going to watch the PLL tomorrow. On one hand, maybe Mr. Yoshida will say something about character models. On the other hand, I'm very disappointed in SE and him in particular and don't want to endure another portion of gaslighting and being lied straight in my face. Decisions, decisions...

I'm expecting nothing from this upcoming Live Letter since it's at a game convention. It's probably going to be all previews for the upcoming alliance raid and whatever other "new" content is coming in 7.1 to hype up the local gamer crowds. I've already seen other people in these forums say stuff like "ugh, I hope they won't spend valuable LL time talking about individual pixels on Lalafel noses, who cares?" because there are people seemingly convinced that us complaining in here is taking development time and energy away from new battle content, which is all they care about.

I highly doubt the battle content team and the character graphics team share lots of members, and if for whatever reason they did, that's on Square-Enix for bad management, not on us for wanting the character models fixed.

When will the part 2 be? Im so anxious. I can’t help but be pessimistic because of how they’ve responded to feedback so far. I want to keep loving this game so badly. I wan’t to make art and cosplay. I want to collect merch. I wan’t to nerd out about it. But all my enthusiasm has been gone since the benchmark. My sub time finally runs out on the 3rd and I’m probably not going to renew until I see firmer evidence that things are back on track. No more cut corners, rushed assets, or split attentions. This is a subscription based game and the work done on it should reach a higher standard than it has recently. SE can’t keep taking this game and it’s players for granted, expecting it to just churn money for other things without giving it the time, budget and staff it needs to maintain its prestige. They can’t stay on top with a more than decade old game with that attitude.

That's not okay. What a waste of time. I should have stayed in bed. This liveletter was the worst I personally have ever seen. Not to forget that they announced just extreme content to do, and nothing for their majority of the playerbase. Crazy, really crazy.

Part 2 PLL will either be end of October or start of November. Usually 2 weeks out from patch launching.

And honestly: same to everything you've just said. I already had to swallow the next-to-no-lore bullet playing hellsguard for a decade now Sko's entire being and race are just gone. She's fundamentally gone and dead and I don't ever see her coming back because they won't listen to players. I'm too depressed to even elaborate more I'm just so tired

There was absolutely no reason to expect detailed talking about character graphics when doing the live letter as a presentation on stage at a major convention. As much as I want to hear their plans, this was never going to be the time to talk about it.

As for berating them for "nothing but extreme content", it's simply not true. There's the Pelupelu quests, new custom deliveries, standard alliance raid, role quest finales, housing updates, mahjong, PVP changes, Hildibrand quests, duty support updates, even Hall of the Novice updates and of course the MSQ and dungeon.

It's hard enough to get listened to when we're complaining about things that provably exist, and the absence of non-extreme content from the LL is not one of those things.

Elezen have always been my favorite race, with Lalafell a close second. I think they still are, but idk. I've become increasingly tempted to use that fantasia I've been holding onto since ARR's finale. Even made a "Lil Avril" to try it out.

They also changed the inside of Lala ears, but I thought those actually looked better, so that was the least of my concerns. You should try it… one of us! lol

I think my ideal character would’ve been a half elf like Hilda, but I couldn’t have that, so I went Lala on my main and loved it!
