    It used to be faster but that changed in EW. I was about to bring up this point: the 3.5 odd month wait in the past felt leagues shorter. For reference in the past we'd have maybe a couple weeks left in 7.0 and by now would have had some teasers for 7.1 to be excited for things. Now we have another month before that and fatigue is well set in.

    I agree with the general sentiment, the 4.5 month patch cycle is GRUELLING. What even is the excuse now? It was covid, then it was them working on a new expansion. Are they not even trying to make up excuses anymore? I've been doing a lot of old content to kill time between patches, but I'm gonna run out of that eventually.

    The Normal raids are fun enough but there is no longer any reason to do them. Savage is nice but once you get your weekly clear, it's off the menu because you can't jump into PF to help other people prog - you would nerf their loot (seriously, why doesn't Savage loot work like Normal/Alliance Raids). Extreme farming gets tedious really fast because of how abysmal the drop rates on the mounts are. I quite enjoy Ex1 but I don't like it enough to do it 99 times.

    I hate to constantly bring up WoW but the 22nd of next month is the next major patch of their expansion which came out around 2 months after Dawntrail.
    The expansion also doubles up as a massive event for the anniversary of the game refreshing some old content for the anniversary. All of that and XIV couldn't even add an unreal trial for 7.0.
    7.1 will be an alliance raid, unreal, ultimate and probably the new doh/dol content. Why is this taking 4 months to give us.

    Because it takes ages to get new content, and when we do, it lasts a couple of weeks at best, then back to waiting 4-5 months

    At this point I feel like a lot of the community is in that gamblers rush mindset where the only real excitement is during the leadup to major patches where the chance of something new to shake up the status quo is in people's minds.

    Throughout EW patches the community theories and discussion for story was always more creative and interesting than the shlock their team of C-tier writers could come up with.

    The funny thing though is that there is so much varied battle content to do yet the design team has optimised the fun out of it.

    Before FFXIV I played a lot of monster hunter, a game with far less budget and content in their patches, yet they could keep me farming decorations and charms without end.
    This was because these patches gave new options for skills and allowed more unique expressions for player builds (Also it was actually fun to farm compared to a majority of roulette content that's been max ilvl synced into oblivion).
    Give us build options, something to chew on, there's literally already a materia system built into the game that Devs do NOTHING with, let us choose wacky utility skills for our slotted materia, not "OMG I CAN GET A 0.00067% DAMAGE INCREASE BY SLOTTING CRIT INSTEAD OF DH!!!"

    Because they are on "the attack" and have to do multiple projects and can't rely on FFXIV only (their main money source) for some reason. Not my words, that's what Yoshi P said.
    Yoshi P speaks like a corpo now, he's speaking as "Square Enix" we lost him.

    The excuse is more work to do with MSQ, more cutscenes etc.
    They need to dissociate the MSQ delivery from the game content and make events and stuff between major patches. But unfortunately, they are too rigid and formulaic to even consider this. Or totally understaffed. Or both.

    Yoshi P's formula for success for FFXIV has changed over the years resulting in less content over longer periods of time. The patch cycles have been extended, and the team wasn't able to handle the load that they were producing pre-Shadowbringers. The jobs have been homogenized for balance purposes, but since the Abyssos incident they have made dps checks much lighter because they lost confidence in balancing these homogenized jobs. So in the end its a lose-lose: No unique jobs, and no proper balance.


    In the end we have boring jobs, and less content over longer periods of time. The only formula that is for is failure.

    Even a Hoyoverse 2 minute trailer beats the entire 40 hours of MSQ 80% non voiced and barely animated WOLK in terms of quality/ animation.

    FFXIV isn't a quality game anymore.. ShB was peak quality content even fight and encounters.. after that game shows its true colors
